Apologies for going back in time, somewhat, but was down in God's own county for 10 days up to Saturday eve. Just wanted to highlight 3 performances from this day (29 July) which were all away from Goodwood but could, potentially, be 'glorious'.
It was great to see
Laurel oblige so eye-catchingly on her debut as she romped home at Newmarket. The 3YO daughter of Kingman was given a Group 1 entry (Sun Chariot Stakes) shortly after this win. Now its a million miles from a maiden to this sort of company but I'd be amazed if by the end of the season Laurel wasn't competing at the 'top table'. Fascinating to see how high they go next time but maybe it will be another race (perhaps novice or Listed) and then the Sun Chariot??? But however they go this filly should be at the top of your 'to follow' list, people.
Is the Stick boy around??? What did he think of
Age of Sails' 3rd run at Southwell??? I'm sure connections 'buried' him in this event with one aim - to secure a handicap mark nothing else. Now given a perching of 77. Thoughts, old boy / people???
And finally...
Haskoy at Wolverhampton who stormed home by 7 lengths on her debut. The filly is, a Juddmonte like Laurel, by Golden Horn out of Natavia. Now I could go on forever about this latter mare but in short she was highly, highly, highly promising for Mr Charlton a few terms back but the old girl then had her career ruined by that prize plum, Teddy Grimthorpe, insisting she ran in The Oaks (a race she wasn't ready for). Haskoy was Natavia's first foal and she couldn't have won any easier. By the way I had no idea Hastoy even existed and only read she had won, last week (5 days after the race was run) in 'The Weekender'!!! Never had a penny on... Going forward though Haskoy looks one to watch out for, crew.
