Newbury 13.25 Haazeez looks a banker and I'm surprised he is on offer at 2/1 with several bookies. Reasoning to follow before price collapses

Form figures for Haazeez of 526 do not look too inspiring at first glance but a closer look reveals
On debut finished 4½l 5th to Mr Chaplin, nearest finish. Mr Chaplin since finished 5th behind The Lion in Winter (clear top rated 2yo)
Second race beaten 2¼l by Electrolyte who subsequently finished 2nd in the G2 Coventry Stakes btn a nose and btn 3½l by Whistlejacket in G2 July Stakes. Aomori City, who was only 1l in front of Electrolyte, was only btn 3¾l in the G1 National Stakes and won the G2 Vintage Stakes
Third race eased towards finish, finished 5¾l behind Shadow of light who subsequently finished ¾ 2nd in the G2 Gimcrack

The form is rather mixed in these Group races but I doubt there is anything in this race that could come close to this form

Well, somebody knows something, that's for sure. I do like to have a look at 2yos who finished 5th or 6th in a field of 12 or more but I passed this one (Belgrave) over because he was beaten 9½l, although the time of the race was decent. I Maximus who is evidently highly thought of finished 2nd about 7l in front of Belgrave and is fav to win the 13.55

At 11/4 I have to stick with Haazeez

Pathetic state of flat racing when City of Troy’s gallop at Southwell makes such enormous headlines.

1500 turned up. Which is staggering, and I think possibly the courses record crowd
