The usual extremely tough card at York today. Feel fortunate that at the moment I'm batting one winner and one loser, think I should be thankful! So, I will take a watching brief today and just enjoy the racing. The Group-1 Nunthorpe Stakes sprint over the minimum distance is a tough one as well. The very fast 2-y-o The Platinum Queen receives the usual hefty weight-for-age allowance which adds to today's puzzle. 2-year-olds have won this several times in the past, and I recall that three of them won it in the 'Fifties' (High Treason, My Beau, Ennis) and they carried absolute flea-weights of 7stone something. Very light jockeys were of course in demand (e.g. Derrick Greening, Tommy Carter) in those days. The weight structure has gone up considerably since then, and the ultra light-weight riders have all but vanished from the scene. So, The Platinum Queen has to be seriously considered. Another interesting one, a longshot today, is Emaraaty Ana, who this time last year hit an absolute purple patch, and seems to come into his own in the late Summer months. Although I read from some reports that he appears to be coming back 'on the boil', his overall recent form is so awful it is hard to get too enthused about the gelding's chances, but who knows?

As usual, enjoy the day folks, and find the winners too! :emoticon-0167-beer:

Well, didn't mention the terrific winner, Highfield Princess, in my above long-winded blurb, but the second and third were, both running fine races. Blimey, Emaraaty Ana really is a late Summer racehorse! Very exciting top-class 5f dash! <ok>

Congratulations to Pilgrim on a great 20/1 winner in the opening event. Bravo, indeed! <applause>
