    Fairy Rath 8/1 NAP

I think the price about Special Robon is absolutely ridiculous given that he is out of the handicap, upped in class and yet to get within 15L of winning over fences and resultantly I quite strong fancy Nick Gifford's 7 year old gelding who most definitely seemed on the upgrade before finishing lame after his last start in December and if recovering from that unfortunate incident I think he could be very difficult to beat off just a 5lb higher mark than he scored off 2 starts back. After showing some very useful form in a bumper behind the talented duo of Moscow Mannon and Joxer when trained in Ireland Paul Cashman. He was subsequently picked up by current connections for £60,000 and after 3 decent enough runs over hurdles last Spring he was put away for the summer. This season began with his chasing debut at Fontwell in October over 22f where he finished 4th behind 3 very useful sorts and later that month he made his handicap debut over fences off a mark of 111 where he clearly ran in a very hot race to finish a 9L beaten 3rd over an extended 2m3f at Chepstow. Held up towards the rear of the field by Tom Cannon where he raced keenly earl on, Fairy Rath made some good progress to track the leaders and as the extremely well handicapped Marshal Zhukov eased into the lead he was pushed along after 4 out and although he never troubled the leader he did stay on to push for 2nd at the finish. The form of that race looks very strong given that Marshal Zhukov was clearly a handicap blot as he comfortably disposed of what looked a strong contest off a 13lb higher mark subsequently and he was beaten less than 6L in a Grade 2 chase on his latest start. In addition, the 5th Plein Pouvoir has come out to win since and it wasn't a bad effort in the slightest.

Kindly dropped 1lb for that effort to a mark of 110, Fairy Rath shed his Maiden tag at the 3rd time of asking over fences with an impressive victory over 2m5f at Wincanton back in November under todays jockey Denis O'Regan. With nobody seemingly wanting to make the running, O'Regan decided to take it up and the switch of tactics worked wonders as he made all from pillar to post to score by an always holding 1.25L from Henry San (who had finished just ahead of Fairy Rath on their previous starts). In the closing stages, Fairy Rath showed a really likable attitude to repel his only challenger despite making a couple of errors at the last 2 flights as the front two finished 21L clear of the remainder. Although Henry San has yet to race again, considering the pair reaffirmed their earlier form by the well handicapped Marshal Zhukov leads me to believe they were both well handicapped animals and it was a fine performance. Additionally, the comprehensively beaten 4th has since scored impressively by 7L off a 4lb lower mark to solidify the form and it was a really nice effort. On the back of his victory, I think the handicapper was pretty lenient in raising Fairy Rath just 5lb to his current mark of 115 and you've got to put a line through his latest performance as he finished lame. He's been given 70 days to recover from that issue which should be more than enough and I see now reason why he can't resume his progression over fences. I definitely feel his current mark is well within his scope of ability and I think it going to be very interesting decision about tactics tomorrow. Looking through the opposition, quite a few of these horses like to lead or be prominent and given the switch of tactics to make all were employed to success it will be interesting if O'Regan is allowed to dictate things from the front. However, I really hope they don't start cutting each others throats out in front by going off to quickly and it is a concern I have for this afternoon's contest. Nick Gifford has his string in fine form at the moment and Fairy Rath shouldn't have any issues with these race conditions. If fully recovered from his lameness, I definitely feel Fairy Rath is primed to take another step forward in his career off a mark I think he's certainly capable of winning off and if all goes to plan hopefully he does just that at a price that was bigger than I was expecting.

Whoa, was at a loose end for Saturday, no footy no rugby, golf course under repair so the greens are ****. Thought I'd see what racing is on and that Ascot card <yikes> <diva> . Cue Card runs too <diva> , looks a tough ask though he has as good a chance as any.

Will be playing the RFC Stick. Seems like there could easily be a very strong pace in the race. I still can't get over how Special Robon is in the market.

We could look mugs here ROTO but that is a shocking price for a horse beaten fifteen lengths last time out.
Three Chords could possibly do with further but I am hoping for a nice strong gallop.
Only Vintage is the other I like in the race. Retains plenty of ability for an old boy and conditions are perfect, put off by the second colours and clear second jockey!

    Good luck mate

Its the most ridiculous price I've ever seen. He'sbeen beaten at least 15L in 4 chase starts, who is 3lb out of the handicap and who is upped in class. I don't think he'd have won in the race where Treadwell made that mistake. As short as 11/10 is absolute bonkers in my mind!

Fairy Rath was on a nice upward curve prior to finishing lame LTO and if putting a line through that effort I think he's got an excellent chance. Will be interesting to see what tactics are for him tomorrow.

Something has been bugging me for a few weeks. On the oddschecker homepage there is a picture of a horse in gigginstown colours leading a horse in the colours of silviniaco contis owner. You can see the jewson logo so it must be that race, so am guessing its sir des champs in front, but who is the other horse jumping the fence?

An extremely confident selection for tomorrow, one that I would take the best price tonight of 5-2 as could well be much shorter. I will be having a decent bet on this one.

    Lingfield
    3.25 King George River 5-2

This horse went down on the nod to a decent enough Noseda horse last time out but the pair of them looked different class to the rest of the field. I think this horse will win and win well. I think it will be sent on very early and no one will get within 2 or 3 lengths of it.

Blue do you think the mile may be on the short side?...I have watched a couple of his races and I thought 10f will be his optimum trip.

Chris Giles is a joint owner with him. He definitely wore those silks in the Jewson. It may well have been his only time wearing them.

That is my only fear Dex as I think his best trip will be the 10f he ran over last time. In that race though they sent him on too early which just allowed the other horse to head him on the line. It is always possible that there is a plan that involves not winning tomorrow and saving him for another day, which is always possible with that yard. I think this horse will be asked to win however and sent on early again to do so, were the race over a mile last time out I think he would have won easily. If he is settled at the back I would worry as it will indicate they want to be done for speed but if there is no dodgy business this horse could easily go off 6-4 tomorrow.

Interesting race at Sandown tomorrow. 2.5m Mares novice hurdle at 14-25

The first three in the betting all hold Neptune and AB entries and the top weight - She Ranks Me - also holds a Supreme entry.

Another Gigginstown hotshot in Twigline, could be anything and Utopie Des Bordes is another with tremendous promise. All three have won over the distance (well UDB was 2m5f in France beating ***o) Small stakes on Twigline for me, so that I can watch on WHTV!

    7.20 Dundalk

    Elusive Prince 20/1

Although a risky proposition, I think its worth having a small play on this former David Barron sprinter who looks a very interesting acquisition for Tom Hogan on what will be his stable debut on the back of a 181 day absence. A very horse for Barron, Elusive Prince showed a high level of form throughout his career with his last win coming off a 3lb lower mark under an excellent enterprising ride by Franny Norton in first time blinkers in July last year as he made all to score by a comfortable 1.5L with the front two 5L clear of the remainder. The runner up franked the form by scoring NTO and although it looked as if he could continue his progression he was a tad disappointing on his final two starts for Barron, finishing well beaten in a couple of very hot handicaps. The last of those came last August and although he's going to have to defy a career high mark of 91 to land this on his stable debut, his latest victory was a career high winning mark so there is every possibility the change of scenery could see him improve again. Interestingly enough, this will only be his 2nd start on the AW and he is the clear class act in the field. He's going to have to give a load of weight away to the rest of the field and even including the talented Conor Hoban's 5lb claim he'll still have to carry 10-1 if he's to be successful. He has carried 9-8 & 9-7 for two of his wins which is a definite positive and I'm not concerned about the long absence as he has won impressively from an even longer one in the past. Given his liking to lead or at least get very close to doing so, I don't think he'll have an issue from stall 7 given that he breaks quickly and ideally I'd like to see him in front after 1f on the fence. Conor Hoban's 5lb claim could prove invaluable to offset his hefty burden and I'm really hoping class shines through and he scores on his Irish debut.
