AFC Bournemouth: Tomlin hopes for a fresh start with Cherries. LEE Tomlin believes he is Premier League quality and hankers a "fresh start" with Cherries. Tomlin was speaking after netting a stunning goal for loan club Bristol City in their 4-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday. Accepting a Scott Golbourne pass on the edge of the box, he took one touch with his right foot to impudently lift the ball over his marker and a second to bury it in the roof of the net with an unstoppable left-foot volley. City boss Lee Johnson described it as ''a touch of genius'', with the strike expected to win the club's goal-of-the-season award. Johnson has already said he would be keen to sign Tomlin permanently but the 27-year-old, who was loaned out in January, will return to Vitality Stadium to discuss his future with Eddie Howe at the end of the season. Tomlin said: “For the time being, the decision is out of my hands. I just have to play football as well as I can. “I’ve got a game next week then I’ve got to go back to Bournemouth and I’m sure I will have talks then. “The Premier League is unbelievable. That’s what I’ve worked so hard for. “I definitely feel that I am a Premier League regular, I have no question about that. “It’s all about opportunities and, if you don’t get it then you’ve got to look elsewhere. “The lads at Bournemouth have been unbelievable. They’ve stayed in the league and are kicking on again. “They are a great, talented bunch and the gaffer has been unbelievable there as well and deserves every bit of success he’s had this season. “I just want to play football. It might be a fresh start next season, you never know. I’ve just got to speak to the gaffer. “Not being big-headed but on the pitch you see players, who are being linked to the Premier League, but can they do what I can?” But Tomlin stole the show with his sixth and best strike for the Robins that had the fans chanting: “Sign him on”. Their reaction surprised and delighted Tomlin, who added: “I’ve never had this much before. “I’m that sort of player, every time I get the ball I want to do something special. “The fans haven’t been on my back-they’ve been unbelievable since I’ve been here and that goal was for them. “Once I know that I feel loved then I can play my best football.” http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sp...Tomlin_hopes_for_a_fresh_start_with_Cherries/
Not exactly a good sign for our chances of signing him. Before, I said our chances were maybe 50/50, now I think we'd be looking at rather long odds indeed...
there are no immediate second chances next season ? and at 27 /28 his time is short .. whatever his decision I wish him all the best..
He's hardly featured for them this season hence him coming to us on loan, so unless Eddie Howe changes his mind then he wont be a regular there next season either. We might still have a chance
In fairness what he said was spot on, he praised Howe, Bournemouth and us. If anyone had a chance to play in the premiership they should all go for it. To me he's reminding Howe that's he's still about without closing the door on us. Still 50/50 for me
No harm in reminding your boss and employers how well you have done- I am sure we have all done that!- As already said, if he is unlikely to feature under Howe, I am sure that he would want to be playing football and I gather we would have had some kind of conversation with him already to see how the land lies
this interview has been lifted from The Bristol City site and they have definitely put an angle on that! It didn't read like that at all the last time I read it.
I can't blame him for wanting Premier league football first. It's every players dream. I just hope we are a close second choice for him.
No the other way round. They have edged it back to the Cherries, as if he can't wait to get back there, but that wasn't the impression from the same interview I read.. its very clever how they have use the same words but twisted it up.
