http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/...o-lloris-is-considering-leaving-tottenham-in- The French press have been absolutely dying to run a story this severe regarding Hugo Lloris and Tottenham Hotspur and today they've finally got their way. L'Equipe, a grand old lady of European sport newspapers, is very respected by journalists throughout the sporting world and today says that Hugo Lloris is and should be considering an exit from the club as early as January. It's already made it's way to football journalists using twitter and France based football writer and broadcaster Matt Spiro said this morning 'Hugo Lloris will consider leaving Tottenham in January if situation does not change before the Arsenal game on Nov 17, say L'Equipe today. Lloris asked to speak to AVB after being left out against Chelsea, received no new explanation regarding coach's stance, explains L'Equipe.' European football writer Ben Lyttleton said 'L'Equipe moaning at #Lloris treatment by #THFC. Headline: 'This is not going to calm down...' Coupet: 'I would leave. It's untenable'.' Coupet is not the first former France international goalkeeper to come out and speak strongly about Lloris and his situation with Tottenham Hotspur. Fabien Barthez told Le Figaro in September: "Nothing surprises me in the football world! He (Lloris) is one of the five best goalkeepers in the world. He is faster than Friedel, he jumps higher and he is very strong mentally." "What is happening now is incomprehensible, but I'm not at all concerned. He will become the centerpiece of the club. Hugo is a calm guy, a good worker. Tottenham will not let him stay on the bench for a long time." That annoyed Brad Friedel more than it probably should have done and the American goalkeeper took to Twitter and said 'Just saw Barthez comments. I normally don't comment on such crap but when disrespected by someone I don't respect I must. Barthez was ignorant, disrespectful and out of order to mention my name.' It was a huge overreaction from Friedel but then the whole Lloris saga has been full of those. Any time the player speaks he insists he's calm and patient with the situation but the stories in France are so frequent and definite that him saying one thing publicly and another privately must be a distinct possibility. Former France international Jean-Michel Larqué is now a media personality and Football Anglais have taken quotes from an RMC interview he did last night in which Villas Boas was the target "I feel that Villas-Boas has problems with communication. Deschamps has the right to speak on this subject. Villas-Boas and Deschamps were not quite on the same level. Who is Villas-Boas?" It's all getting a bit silly and if the stories aren't being encouraged by Hugo Lloris and his camp then he needs to use the international break to set the French press straight on what the situation is, and publicly ask them to stop printing such stories. On the other hand, given that the respectable L'Equipe are now pushing his unhappiness, it could be that the French goalkeeper is considering leaving and if that's the case Tottenham may have to take the situation seriously. Would they really want a character who fills his home press with stories of his plight and is happy for a circus to built around his club in his name? There are other goalkeeping options out there and if (and of course it's a big IF) Lloris is behind much of this then a quick parting of the ways could be a solution. The obvious option for Lloris would be PSG who currently have Italian Salvatore Sirigu as their number one. This whole goalkeeping situation is getting bloody ridiculous. IMO, we've done the correct thing up until now, by not pushing Brad out. He's been terrific for us since he joined. - A goalkeeper of immense experience who deserved to remain as number 1, even with the signing or arguably one of the world's best goalkeepers. However, I think the time has come now where Lloris must be the man between the sticks. We've brought him in to be our long term goalkeeper and whilst we've also tried to nurture him into the premier league slowly, it's now November and we must replace Brad with our future man. It's not going to be nice for Friedal, but he's such a professional, and at 41, he knows the club have to make this transition decision. That needs to happen urgently, IMO. Our CB partnerships seem to be continuously changing due to injuries and specific competitions, but we must start building as much stability as we can, from the back. This needs to start with the goalkeeper. In addition, Lloris needs to come out and say something. IMO, he's letting the press take the piss out of the club a bit, and using it to his advantage. - That's not good, and makes you wonder if these thoughts of leaving might have some truth. There's enough crap on a daily basis with AVB targeted for just about anything; we don't need any more. A good way to put this to bed, is for Lloris to start against City. Some more big decisions coming up for AVB. Wednesdays' alterations after listening to the fans paid dividends. It's time to replicate that again on Sunday.
No, but you you have got one from me, thanks for relighting the fire. Better on one thread than spread around I guess. OK GH10 here is your platform!
I have tbh and say before coming here I'd paid no attention to his performances, just knew he was Frances keeper, so I am reliant on the overwhelming glowing reports from the world of football at how good this bloke is supposed to be. The view with my own eyes from the handful of games I've seen, makes me wonder how. In a handful of games we've see two errors that bad, had it been Gomes it would be a slatefest! So, if we're still going with popular opinion, then he must be in not very good form, as we have not seen assured keeping. So why posters want an out of form keeper in goal puzzles me. However, that said, Brad could have done better with few lately, so I suppose its not so cut n dried.
it makes a change from talking with Notso 3 days later about the bloody Naughton/Lloris mess up. Both Notso and I have been back in "Not606 court" this morning defending our case. Sorry to add fuel to the fire, but it's just getting ridiculous now. Whether the press are talking bullshit or not, they do have a point. he does need to be number 1 at the club. it's mid November now.
Lloris came with a massive reputation but tbh hasn't overly impressed. In every game he has played he has made at least one minor mistake and on Thursday did a good Gomes impression with an awful backpass from Naughton which resulted in a pathetic goal to concede. He must know that after this season he will be our undisputed number one so if he can't wait until then then maybe a loan move in January with Cudicini coming in as back up would be a good short term solution.
I think we know where this is headed but I'm going to leave it open for now in the hope that Lloris discussions can be kept to this thread only and that we can also be civil to people with differing views. Personally I'm not convinced Lloris has done enough in his chances to replace Brad but they're two great keepers and as much as I'd hate for the club to bow to player pressure I'd rather we played Lloris if we're genuinly at risk of losing him. The actual article doesn't convince me he wants out though.
He's class Notso and we were lucky to get him, IMO. It's simply a period where he's trying too hard to prove himself because he wants to be playing in every game. it's unfair to judge him on anything we've seen so far. he's actually had very little to do.
It is not as if he is not playing at all is it. Remembering how Gomes struggled with the pace and crosses when he first came in it's quite a wise decision to give him time to adjust to English football. You can't mess about with the Goalkeeper position it's one of the most vital on the pitch. Also bear in mind an unsettled Spurs defence adding a new goalkeeper to the mix is bound to lead to mix up's like the Naughton one. Ignore the French press, our's have done exactly the same when English players move abroad. The thought is always that they don't use the player properly from Greaves to Lineker & Gazza similar opinions were held here.
I hope you do leave it open YV, I'm sure there will be different views on this. I can see an interesting debate building already.
Unfortunately my position does not allow me to talk as openly on this matter as maybe I would like, but I can clear up one thing and that is on the choice of keeper for the Chelsea game, which the French media are suggesting Lloris was upset with.... It was made quite clear to both keepers that after Lloris's uncertain display in the Panathinaikos game, it was felt the best approach would be to play him against Aston Villa. Following that game, he would then have 2 International games for his country and this run of 3 games in 10 days would benefit us and benefit him. When this plan was discussed with Friedel and Lloris, it was emphasised that whatever the level of Lloris' performance in these games, Brad remained the number one choice and would be reinstated for the Chelsea match. A Spurs representative did watch Lloris in both France's games in that international break and the report back was mixed. Some excellent positive stuff and some average stuff., which confirmed to AVB that he was correct in going with his plan A for the Chelsea game and playing Brad. Hope that at least gives clarification on one point. I'm off to cover a game now, so this will be my only comment.
Well here I am Roo, and others I won't go on about how I think Hugo has been treated, because you all know about that. I'll simply say this, I wouldn't blame him at all for putting in a transfer request, coming to Spurs has been a bad mistake by him, and I bet he can't believe what's happened to him If he does leave the club soon, I'm confident he'll show in his performances for his next club how badly he's been treated at this club. If he stays I fear his confidence will decline, and so will his goalkeeping. It's quite likely that by January the situation will have deteriorated to the extent that it will be best all round if he leaves. Then again, maybe AVB will see sense and play him on Sunday, but I doubt it.
Why would his confidence decline if he stays and plays every other game like he has been doing now? I think you are just covering your bases as you have been so pro Lloris that you don't want to admit you're wrong and look like a bit of a idiot. If he was that good then he would come in and show his class and how he's clearly better than Friedel like you and many others say he is. When we got him, I was amazed but he hasn't shown anything special and at the moment Friedel looks the better keeper.
my opinion of Both goalkeepers is very equal. Both are top class goalkeepers and both have made mistakes/ not had the best of games this season. The only reason I edge towards the Lloris camp is because I'm keen to see us bring our future players through and playing regularly. IMO, AVB has done nothing wrong by mixing up the keepers so far, Lloris has needed to learn this league as the prem has seen many goalkeepers struggle to adjust. With the other new additions we've made, it would have been suicide to have thrown them all in at once. Sig and Dempsey's performances have proven this. but each of those 2 are 1 player our of 11. The goalkeeper can have an affect on the entire back 4. It's because it's now November that my views are starting to change. Not that Brad has done anything wrong, or Lloris has done anything right, but the latter is the future.
I'd leave him in for Sunday, to be honest, as I think we need to play quite a high line and Lloris has had enough time to adjust to the league. He should have a good idea of what's expected of him now and this game would allow him an opportunity to prove that he deserves to keep the shirt. The whole way that the French press, former players and current manager have acted is completely stupid and unprofessional, though. To paraphrase one man's own quote: "I feel that Deschamps has problems with communication. Deschamps has no right to speak on this subject. Villas-Boas and Jean-Michel Larqué were not quite on the same level. Who is Jean-Michel Larqué?" The former Chelsea scumbag and current mouthy twat has been stirring things up since the man signed for us and he needs to shut his mouth. He's like a child whose had his favourite toy taken away.
Lloris may well be unhappy and considering leaving Spurs (I dont believe any of it for 1 minute) in January, but the club has bought him to be our future long term No.1 and I doubt they would consider letting him go (unless an offer too good to turn down came in). Deschamps needs to keep his mouth shut, of course he is unhappy his goalkeeper is not playing regularly but it is not really any of his business.
The club may have bought Lloris for the future, but it's unlikely that the captain of France sees it that way. Of course we can hold him against his will, but that situation tends to cause problems, eg Modric and Berbs. Plus, if he isn't playing, we have a highly paid asset on our hands whose value and indeed ability will be deteriorating. The situation is already messy, as I say by January it could be terminal, and we'll end up having to sell him, probably during the summer. Because, by then I can't imagine Lloris ever forgiving AVB for the treatment that he's dished out to him. It's probably already too late and the poisoned apple has been tasted, digested and will never be forgotten.
