With the first of the Merseyside Derby games fast approaching i thought i would see what we think in terms of this game with your mates, lads down the local or at work... I have a mates who support a wide amount of Premiership teams and come across a lot through work, but its at my local where it means the most to me wether Liverpool win or lose... Some of my closest mates, the majority are Redmen, are in fact evertonians or mancs and this is where i have split loyalties... At work its just a ribbing to the oppo where you always try to leave them with the last word on the matter, so they cant come back to you. Sometimes it can be a swipe just because you can, and nothing more than that. Its fun, and its here that it can be at its most cutting... I often accuse all preston fans being mancs as they seem to always ask about how they have done before they even start talking about the 'north-end'. Thats usally my starter for 10 and the ribbing will go on from there... But in my local i have a very good relationship with some blue noses and mancs and will feel sorry for them if they are hard done to in a match, done out of a good goal or even when they get stuffed in a final...!!! One close pal is a manc and when he lost to Barca last year i was upset for him as a freind, but not for the team he supported... When my blue nose pal lost to chavski some years back in the FA cup, i was sad for him, but again not for the team... (though that day was split as i didnt want them chavskis winnng it either...) Freindly rivalry is best left for in the local but ive been elsewhere and i can get quiet mad about the derby games, both manc and blue nose ones. Ive come off the ground for many years either laughing my head off or just wanting to smash something up, anything, because we lost to them 'scumbags'... The Merseyside Derby and the mancs matches are hard to watch, take in and understand at times but i have close mates that can ease the pain or even rejoice with. Im glad to have them... Football is much more than life and death... Its also understanding your mates and how they feel when at the lowest of the lows... I hope this weekend we beat the blue noses and beat them well. But in the end i will shake the hand of my mates wish them well and look forward to the next battle... Thats what its all about...
Half my mums side are bitters, I always want them to do well and always hope they do us a favour by beating any of our rivals. Never happens though unless it's a Carling cup game. In comparison to other Derbies I think it is a friendly rivalry, I have no hate for them at all. Just hope we beat the ****ing ****s on Saturday.
What happens if they do? I thought your a guy full of love? Are you saying you'd destroy them rendering your username false!?? (Gosh I should be a journalist! )
Whenever we beat them on their own ground theres kick off's in town after the game, the freindliness has'nt been evident in Merseyside derbies for years. I've got a few bluenose mates and they're sound lads, the trouble is'nt between friends its between strangers in the pubs. Its sad but its a sign of the times unfortunately.
My attitude towards Everton was distilled in the season that they were minutes away from relegation. All that season, whenever Everton were mentioned my head sand "Going down, going down, going down". But when the prospect so nearly became a reality, I found myself hoping that they would somehow escape - which they did - the bastards!! I have a few friends who are bluenoses and even the odd (very odd!) relly. I can't hate them but as sure as hell I don't just want to beat them, I want to DEMOLISH them.
As I've said before, I was brought up just off Goodison Road and my dad and uncle were blues. I wish them well. About 6-0 to us would be fine.
Lets hope we get the win, form goes out the window in these games, However we've won more than we've lost of these games recently. If form continues, we should win. PS. Have the dates been set for the Carling Cup ties? Are we live on Sky?
I don't mind the BS either. I think a lot of their bitterness has reared its head in relatively recent years. There's one who goes in my local who's a right nasty f..ker. He was born in Warrington. His Dad, however, goes in my other local and goes to watch the BS regularly. He's a top bloke and isn't bitter. He was born in Liverpool. 0 - 3 tomorrow. I@VE GOT A TICKET!!!
I don't hate them too much as a lot of my friends and family are Blues, however they are so smug when they beat us maybe its because its the only time they get to feel like they've won something i don't know. I can happily watch the match with blues without there being any trouble but i still hope we demolish them tomorrow.
Hahahah i did realize that i was possibly dipping my toe in to dangerous waters with that comment, but you know what this thread is about us and the BS so **** the mancs for now all though i doubt they'll be able to resist getting involved.
