Freebies always come first in the summer Sparks.

When big money gets blown in the top flight the cash starts filtering down, clubs get an idea of players they need etc. When it comes to paying transfers, the summer hasn't kicked off properly yet.

I'm chuffed thus far with these freebies though. Feel like we're taking the cream of the crop at Championship level at least...

All the free signings were wanted by other clubs, this manager needed numbers and fair play to him he has kept the bankroll. Who wants to pay millions for players when we can get them for nothing? If the players were on contracts they would have cost.

oh come on, do you actually not believe these players havent cost us extortionate wages and agents fees just because they are free agents? conway and taylor were chased by other clubs, as was earnshaw. they will be on high wages, so dont fall into the trap of believing we havnt already spent a large chunk of our budget already in the season.

demba ba cost around £4m in signing on fees and agents fees alone, probably what he'd be worth if he was under contract, you get the idea?

I think te word "Extortionate" is a bit strong. I do not beleive that the club management would allow anyone to extort money from them, they are too astute.
Pay them what they are worth - Yes!
Pay them more thay they're worth. It won't happen with this lot.
So we may be paying them a wedge but someone at the club obviously thinks they are worth it, and I think time will tell that they are.

Yeah Swamp, I do "get the idea". <doh>

Don't be so ****ing patronising - the thread was tongue in cheek.

As far as these new players wages are concerned, you know something for a fact again do you, like the £750K you reckoned it cost the club in walk-away money for DJ?

There is only one thing we know for certain, and that is we know nothing for certain.

well, i may lack insider knowledge, but i make up for that with something called common sense, and a basic understanding of how modern day free transfers occur <ok> if you dont think we havnt paid big money in wages to these players then you're living in cloud cuckoo land. there was a quote from the dundee manager that even rangers couldnt compete with the wages we were offering for conway, now theres a fact for you <ok>

Swamp, I think most guys on here understand the economics involved with regard to players on a free and what they can command if sold whilst under contract.
Recent history suggests the Gers are skint and can't afford too much so no surprise there methinks. No one has said we've got them cheap in terms of salary because none of us will ever know. Ideas will be bandied about but only the player, his leech,,, um sorry agent and the club know the true salary package negotiated.
I think you were a tad patronising but i'm sure that wasn't your intent and your points were valid.
