Got a new (not new) laptop. I've used Avast for the last couple of years, should I stick with that or is there a better Free Anti-Virus programme?

AVG probably the most popular free antivirus. I've no idea how the likes of Norton still make money.

    Cheers for the sensible comments!

I used to use AVG until I got a virus from a website even though AVG was up-to-date and running. To be fair: none of the AV software can remove a virus if they haven't yet heard of it.

I use AVG (paid) and AVG free on my machines.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials (also free) on one of my laptops. Put it on to see how it went. That was about 6 months ago the lappy remains virus/malware free. No problems.

It seems much faster and less obtrusive than AVG and over the 6 months I've been using it seems to be equally effective.

    What's the catch? <laugh>

The guy I've got the now fixed it (had to reload windows onto it) and added more memory - free of charge.
