A few months ago while doing an essay on the late great Mr Archer, I was saddened to find that his grave was in a state of disrepair. I wanted to do something about it but didn't know where to start. I tried the BHA and other that a computerised reply acknowledging my email, nothing else. So I turned to this forum. PN was kind enough to offer me the Newmarket course workers. At the time, they were up to their armpits getting ready for the festival so couldn't help. They did however pass on my request for an upgrade of the Archer grave to the local council. Today I received this lovely reply from a lady called Lucy of the Newmarket Jockey Club Room. The lovely lady was kind enough to include a photo of the work done on the grave by the council, but I'm useless at this stuff. The best I could do was provide an attachment that leads to the picture.

    I'm a happy man.

    Very admirable Cyc.

You are obviously trying to upload a picture from your computer.

    Click the insert image icon
    Click From computer
    Click Choose File
    From the directory "Users\Lyn\Pictures\"
Double Click on "Grave II 006.jpg"
    Click Upload File

If you don't see the image immediately click on Go Advanced, scroll down and click Preview Post. The picture should then appear. Then click Submit Reply.

Thanks Ron, it still took me 10 minutes. <laugh>

I don't know why it's so small, but that's a lesson for another day. Just double click image. (Of course you already know that. :)

Good morning, Cyc. In fairness, his grave doesn't look that bad. In fact, graves over a hundred years old normally look far worse in UK cemeteries. Maybe that's sad and an indictment of British relatives.

That was after the clean up Tam. The flowers were a nice touch. Well done to the Newmarket club and council.

It's amazing how some greats can have their reputations attacked. In the research I did, I found nothing to support the rumour that he pulled horses, there were stories, but none that I could find to support the claim. In fact the man was a very caring person. He always helped those in need, and few actually knew of these deeds. His personal live seemed one of depression. I think it was something he battled with most of his short life.

I'm so pleased you got a result cyc. I ought to pop up there and lay some flowers. It's only a ten minute walk from my office.
