Franz Beckenbauer

I was surprised to see no thread yet on this very sad news on one of the greatest players to ever play the game of football. I saw him once in the old NASL when I lived in Edmonton and the crowd was huge and most of the supporters only came to see him play because the rest of the entire two teams were much lesser mortals. A true legend of the game and my thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time.

Farewell to Der Kaiser 1945-2024.

A truly great footballer in a sport where the word is over used, and a gentleman to boot who was always complimentary and generous in his praise of the opponents even if they had been battered.

There won't be many more like him

I rate Bobby Charlton like I do with Franz.
Even though they were different ends of their career, they had massive respect for each other.
Absolute German legend.

I totally forgot that he was on the field for West Germany in 1966 and I saw him there, as well as later.
