Frankly, this is the best thing that could happen.....

To be fair, Chris Powell looked broken long before Sunday, his judgment was off months ago, and a wiser man would have known his limitations and saw an opportunity to walk away with dignity, the moment Yann and Stevens were sold. He refused to go, perhaps believing his own hype, or the hype of the sycophants.

Powell will do well out there. He is an wealthy man, personable and bright. Why bother with management when you can sit on a TV panel for more money and no stress. I know what I would do. Always know when to leave the party before you get lumbered with the drunks and the clearing up. Powell stayed too long or was allowed too.

The positive realisation for me is that we now have more of a chance of staying up without Powell. Whatever way you cut it Powell was not getting the points needed. He had to go.

Now Roly is the devil incarnate for making a mercy killing, which is the kindest thing he has done yet.

Roll on Charlton and Good luck Chris, its up to us now to take on Roly not in your name, but for the sake of our football club.

It might have been the best thing had it been done in January, a manager with experience (plus in the UK) and giving him the rescources to bring his own players in.

Instead we've got a man who holds a token position at AC Milan, 56 years old and hasn't set the world alight with his managerial record, can hardly afford to bring in many more loan players - all whilst we are bottom of a league he has no link to.

Time will tell, but I can't agree this is the best thing as it stands.

RD is the devil, not for sacking Powell, but for hiring a manager with no UK experience and for running our club as a Feeder club, that is why he is the devil, he doesn't care about a club, shame the Americans didn't take over, they might have run us like Glazer has at United, yeah, we'd be in debt again but he'd have a back seat and get his checkbook out when our manager wants a new player etc

    RD will ruin this club

I'm with SuperC on this. Would welcome a fresh face and fresh style but someone who knows the Championship or at least English football.

I can't see this as an improvement but I hope I'm wrong (I usually am).

If the new manager turns out to be the dog's b****x it will be a great move for the club. If we go down it will be a relegation in his CV. He starts with a clean slate, and let's see how long that lasts! Who will be the first to call for his head I wonder?

With us yes, but Roley has sacked him before...

One thing I can guarantee, is that the first "Riga Out" post will not be far off Billy...... I wouldn't be surprised to find some right now...

Joey Barton all kicked off on Twitter, I'm probably one of the few people in the world who like him, he's said the club is a joke and all that

Maybe he genuinely likes Powell and thinks the club is a mess and isn't happy.
    Or
it could be because Powell is lined up to be the next QPR gaffa

I'm a fan of Joey B. Met him at an event and was very friendly. I politely declined his invite of going for a big mac though.

If we get Mourinho, then definitely.

I think the new managerial appointment is in line with a quote from our friends at Liege from last week: ''if they're not good enough for Liege then we have the option of sending them to Charlton''.

I agree 100% with the artist formerly known as superchrissy. If this was to be done, it should have been done in january, and if RD had any sort of footballing knowledge, he'd get in one of the many out of work managers with experience at this level.
If we lose tomorrow, I imagine the fans will be a lot less patient than they were with C P. You get what you pay for Roly.

I can't see us getting many more points this season. What have the players got to play for? When Roland took over we all thought the contract situation would be sorted out, but now I can't imagine what the dressing room will be like. IMO Jose has been brought in to get us relegated, Roland wouldn't have sacked him from SL if he rated him as a manager. I expect he'll then take over from Paul Hart and only Roland knows who will replace him. Talking about "boycotts" and "protests" is misleading, they are short-lived, but Charlton is about to lose a large swathe of support for good. There really are better causes to give money to than Standard Liege, which is where my money will go if I renew my season ticket. Of course if Roland can convince me otherwise I'll change my mind.

    Riga out!

Am I the first? All my life I have come in a poor second with my "first cuckoo" letters to "The Times". I would like to be first with something before I snuff it.

Funnily enough, I love Riga. I used to take my girlfriend to the state-subsidized ballet there in the good old days. But Vol already knows that.

I needed to get my "Riga out" post in today because there will be plenty more after we lose 0-8 to 'Udders tomorrow.

I see we have no Charlton v Huddersfield thread. Rumour is that Addick4Life has defected to Cray Wanderers.

Riga is nothing more than a stooge.

Powell was ordered by RD to play the ****e v Sheffield Utd, and refused to do so. Powell is quoted in the Mail today (two page brilliant article) as rating Thuram as "no better than conference standard".

It will be interesting to see if it kicks off tonight, particularly if Riga Mortis selects Thuram and Nego etc. personally I am up for a bit of action if it does, it is long overdue at Charlton, the fans just sit back and put up with any old ****. This Belgian clown needs fronting sooner rather than later.

Tonight, tonight, won't be just any night (West Side Story).
Tonight will be Roland's Charlton (except of course he won't be there). And what will the atmosphere be like? Will Big Dave be able to summon up the same enthusiasm as usual? Will Mr. Murray walk on to the pitch to address his adoring multitudes? If so he might get a shock, even CL is turning against him. I find it pretty distasteful the way the OS has treated CP's sacking, with just a short perfunctory statement about his leaving the club. Not even the usual polite thanks for blah blah blah.

I fully endorse some sort of V sign to Douchebag, I certainly feel a walkout or as the ground is big enough a stay out. Simply hanging around the concourses or car park for 20 minutes into the 2nd half will get the headlines and get the message across. This nasty slut is out to perform all sorts of abortions on CAFC. Whilst the Powell sacking was fair, the modus operandi behind it was not. I really fear for the clubs future.

Roly needs a slap and now.

If I was there I'd happily stand outside the ground with a load of fans, we need a walk out, at 70 minutes, as been said, or we all stand outside the ground for the first 20 minutes of the game.

As the mail article says, Platini wants to stop City being able to buy the league... that's far less important than a club with history such as ours being turned into a dumping ground. Never liked Platini, the fact he would stand and watch this but make rules to stop City (The financial fair play rule) is unbelievable.

I hope there is a protest tonight, and if there is I will 100% be involved.

Regardless of what you thought of CP's managerial capabilities, the comments about Lily Thuram are both incredible and deeply worrying.

Maybe its too early or late, Vol but can you use your connections on the ITTV site to stir something up? and of course you could use one of your many aliases to promote the same thing on CL?

I have always missed Frankie Valley?
