Watched a documentary on him a couple of days ago. Always liked him and his odd sense of humour. Once again though this was yet another example of a comedian whose private life was bedevilled with insecurity, anxiety and depression. Although mental illness is a common affliction it seems to be endemic with comedians which I think quite possibly makes them amazing actors. Frankie used to pop all sorts of pills before having the courage to go on stage. Why are so many comedins predisposed to mental afllictions do you think? Another classic example was Hancock who ended up taking his own life in Australia. If you have ever watched his television series from the 60's with his sidekick Sid James he was an absolute genius at comedy - "The Blood Donor" being a particular favourite. And "Twelve Angry Men" - a parody of the film with Henry Fonda based on the fantastic book. One quote from Hancock still cracks me up when he was delivering one of his speeches to his fellow jurors - "as Shakespeare said in The Merchant Of Vienna"...................... still cracks me up that
Maybe not right enough. Just highlighted more because they are in the spotlight and their problems seem to be an obsession with our ever intrusive media. Have I just agreed with ST? I surely have.
Apparently they are. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...en-mental-illness-and-creativity-1678929.html
Definitely. There is a common link between those with a tendency to depression and those who tend to "over-compensate" and try to be the life and soul. Most of them come off as awkward and forced but sometimes it comes off well and then end up seeing it as a way forward for them. Which is why we get the paradox of some of the world's top comics actually being very insular and introverted people who simply wear a mask. This in turn leads to higher stress and hence depression. Also it's not only Comics, same thing with musicians and to a lesser extent actors (usually having to work closer with more people weed out the introverts there)
That's it I quit. Admiral Piss Poor has actually agreed with me on something for the first time ever. I shall never live this down. I'm outta here pronto, Tonto
That's fair but there aren't really that many comedians who suffer from depression. No more so than in any other line of work. I do believe that people in the entertainment industry are predisposed to hypochondria though. It's always funny when some celebrity claims to be suffering from some illness or abuse and we suddenly have an outpouring of collective grief from celebrity circles all claiming to suffer the same thing. It seems a bit of a coincidence that every other 'celebrity' mum suffer post-natal depression. ps Stephen Fry and bipolar depression was another one. How many people had heard of it before he announced he had it to the world? Now you can't read your girlfriend's magazines without some 'celebrity' claiming to suffer from it.
I do believe I have monaco. Not exactly the first time though. I do enjoy playing DevilsAdvocate but I must insist I am not that baldy boring ex Copper/Squaddie on here. You see, the trouble is not everything is black and white (more a John Major grey) and if other people on here saw both sides like myself we would all get along so much better. Either that or I am just an argumentative WUM.
There are two ERs, so it's fair enough for both of him to agree with different sides of the argument.
Whatever do you mean my good fellow? I'm afraid I am rather complex like everyone with a human brain. I change from one day to the next with experience. **** me I have just been honest. **** this, I'm off.
