Sad news today that VODKA has died of laminitis, she has visited Frankel a few times, she had not long given birth to a filly and her 2yo son is in training with Roger Varian, both by Frankel. She was standing at Newmarket. Vodka debuted in 2006 and earned her first G1 win at that year’s Hanshin Juvenile Fillies. In 2007, she became the first mare of the postwar period and third in history to win the Japanese Derby.
A number of runners today with the most intriuging being SUPHALA who puts her 1,000 Guineas credentials on the line in the G3 Prix Imprudence at Maisons-Laffitte at 3.27pm.
Suphala does not look to have grown much to me. I am a litte disappointed by the way she looks today. A bit concerned I must say.
Graffard's Watch Me won. Suphala was second. A bit of a scramble in the finish and Suphala probably needs a mile. I didn't think she looked fully wound up but overall I just had a bad feeling watching her in the build up to the race. I would imagine she will be pushed out for the Guineas after that rather disappointing effort.
I thought SUPHALA ran a decent race after watching the replay, your probably right, she needs a mile now, i think she'll have come on for the race.
I was thinking more about any chance Suphala had in the Newmarket Guineas and I felt the performance today was short of the required standard. The colts race looked mediocre but even so it was two and a half seconds faster run. I think the Racing Post are having a laugh rating the 1-2 in the Djebel on 113. I'll eat my hat if that turns out true.
