Awful, awful comments from Frank Arnesen - spent over 60m on Chelski's youth accademy, hardly a single player come through, and now he says 'clubs that spend time developing youngsters don't want to win trophies'....scrape away all the glitz and glamour, this is a sad, sad time for football in this country.
It's a shame alright. The English national team will be struggling like **** in 10 years as more and more owners pursue instant success. Look at my team Rangers as an example. We chased Euro glory and through a mixture of horrendous mistakes and badluck, we failed miserably. Anyway, we built a training facility which has produced some semi decent players in the last 10 years. We've produced guys like Alan Hutton, Chico Adam, Alan McGregor, Barry Ferguson, Chris Burke, Ross McCormack, Danny Wilson and now we have an exciting prospect in Jamie Ness coming through. Point is that becasue our club is now financially crippled because we spent too much chasing the dream, we are now forced to play these guys, and I'd bet that if we weren't skint, we would never have seen the majority of these guys play for the Rangers. I know Chelsea have great prospects in Sturridge and McEcholan (sp) but you know these guys will need to leave to get first team football. The problem being that the need to leave now or forever hinder their develpment. UEFA need to act, but will have the EU legislation stopping them from doing anything substantial.
