Where does getting club to safety rank in career achievements?

It is important because it is my first time in the PL and I feel my team is better than three months ago, this important for my career and my pride but most important is the club.

I said when I arrived, the club is a good club, the players are good players, the guys are good guys, I don’t know what happened before but this was a good team. We have improved match after match and in the last weeks we have played always better and I hope to see my team and players play like last Saturday, especially the first half, this is my attitude and my style. I told the chairman this yesterday, my job is to build a team to play in this way. I am happy but it is not enough, I want more.

This stark improvement means Swansea travel to Newcastle tomorrow sitting 13 points clear of the relegation places with five games of the season remaining. That upturn has largely been achieved by making Swansea solid and grinding out results. Now Guidolin wants to add some panache to performances.

"It is difficult to play well and have a result when you are in difficulties. This is the same for every team, the big teams too," he said. "The priority was the table and I know we played well sometimes and sometimes not well, but we still had results. "The perfect situation is to play well and win but you cannot do it every time.

"In the future, for these five games at least, I hope to see my team play well. Not with freedom, because this can be dangerous. We must still be focused, but we can also play with spirit and I think it's possible."

The first sign of Swansea adding guile to the grit on display in recent weeks arrived when Chelsea visited the Liberty last Saturday. Though the game ended in a tight 1-0 win, Swansea showed more attacking intent. Jefferson Montero was added to the starting line-up for the first time under Guidolin and a host of chances were created against the reigning Premier League champions.

Guidolin indicated this is a better reflection of how he likes to play and a sample of what might lie in store if he is allowed to stay next season. - Francesco Guidolin

Football is big business im afraid...Guildo's feelings don't come into it....If he gets the job then he will be the best candidate and if he don't get the job then the club thinks there is someone better.......he knows the terms of his contract so he cant complain really. all he can do is hope they chose him....

"Not with freedom, because this can be dangerous." That sums Guidolin up though doesn't it.

The trick is getting the balance right and a lot of homework on the opposition .

'Today was not a good day' - Franco.

As so often has been the case this year, Swansea were the orchestrators of their own downfall.
They were not demonstrably poor, but they shipped soft goals – two from set-pieces – and they missed chances. It doesn't matter if you're playing a team at the top of the league or the bottom, such a combination is going to cost you. Swansea were laboured on the ball, encouraged to keep possession by Newcastle after they had grabbed their first-half opener through Jamaal Lascelles, but unable to do much with it; the tempo of their play was just not quick enough to cause problems.

When they did have a period of pressure and created openings, the finishing touch wasn't good enough to truly trouble Karl Darlow in the Newcastle goal and a Toon defence that has been exposed so many times this season and begged to be again here. Ashley Williams fired wide, Bafetimbi Gomis blazed over and Jefferson Montero missed a clear shot on goal when the score was 1-0 and you wondered if a Swansea leveller would see nerves suffocate St James' Park.

Perhaps this was a result of the intensity slipping after a hard three months and a hard-earned 40 points. But it was a reminder that there is still work to be done with this side and underlined decisions taking this summer – with regard to manager and transfers – will definitely matter. - Chris Wathan
