Arsenal fans seem to think he's also a full back. Apparently hasn't got one set position which has held him back by the sounds of it. Reading in to that, JBG probably won't be ready for tomorrow, so Wilson at RM and the Coq at full back?
May also allow Yoni Buyens to get forward and a bit more creative if Cocquelin was to go into the Midfield... Almost similar to how Stephens managed to push forward more when Cousins broke through last season
When Jordan Cousins played def/mid against Fulham he tweeted that it was great to be doing what he enjoyed most. He must be thrilled. I don't think it is doing his game any good shunting him about like this. This signing makes our squad even more unbalanced. I wonder if Bob is under obligation to play him, and if so who will be dropped?
The Coq sounds like Arsenal's version of Cousins. I'm sure they will bond over not being played consistently in the same position. But it should be said a lot of Arsenal fans think he is a good player. I'm sure it will become clearer in the next 5 days how he fits in to BP's plan.
No problem if Coquelin's arrival frees up Cousins. Jacko is past his best, and Buyens can't get to grips with the idea that a game lasts for 90 mins, not 45.
Yes, although Coquelin looks a strong player by Championship standards, given the Belgians are always bleating about not signing players for the sake of it, it does seem a strange signing. I cannot see the point of one-month loans except as a chance to try out a possible permanent signing, so I hope it is that. But that then gives me queasy feelings about Cousins' future. Poyet, Wilson, and Cousins were our best players last season. One has been let go for peanuts and the other two have been horribly f*cked about and devalued this. Morrison was worth a million last season. Would be lucky to get a quarter of that for him now. How is all this good business? Signing Coquelin would also make more sense if any of Buyens, Cousins, Jackson or Wilson has picked up a month-long injury we don't know about yet.
Maybe Bob's tactics are to play 6 in midfield, with Igor coming on as sub 20 minutes from the end to try and grab a 0-1. If The Harriotts haven't been sent to Coventry we could play- The Harriotts; Jacko; Cousins; Buyens; Coquelin; Munns. for an hour, then send on Igor and Gudmundsson. You know, it makes sense!
I can't believe all the moaning having signed a very good player. An Arsenal friend of mine said that he is a box to box midfielder with a good engine. I think he is the sort of player we are looking to sign permanently. The right age and the right pedigree. He can also play right back which gives us a different option.
It's not moaning, Dick. It just seems odd that we haven't put more focus on getting a striker on board. They have been available. I'm happy with the Coq (oh err). I'll be happier if I see him line up in his natural position of CM.
Surely depends on how we are going to use him, Dick ? Given that he has to play in the next 3 games, it will p*ss Cousins off if he is the man to make way.
Cousins is not undroppable.Cousins hasn't been good the last few games, whatever midfield position he has played.I think, tonight will see the Frenchman at right back or right midfield.
Perhaps they have been trying to get a striker on board. I know for a fact that they were close to getting one in on transfer deadline day. RD will not touch the likes of Grant Holt or Danny Graham because of their age and salary. RD would prefer permanent signings with resale value. Coquelin fits into this profile. The one month loan is effectively a trial and if he does well I wouldn't be surprised if we make an offer for him. Whether Arsenal want to sell him is a different matter.
Is it effectively a trial? A lot of Arsenal fans don't seem to think it is. I guess only the two clubs know that information.
I haven't seen him, but he sounds a very similar type of player to Jordan Cousins, remember Cousins played at full-back as well as defensive mid while coming through the ranks. But I see fat chance of Coquelin being shunted out to the wing- he'll be played in his natural position. Meanwhile Cousins will continue to get pelters for his poor wing play.
It was painful to see Jordan struggling on Saturday out wide. His touch has totally deserted him. Would not be a total surprise to see him left out tonight.
