Well, the fact its in the echo who the club just granted their Q&A thing to a few weeks ago (the first time they've had a look in since previously they'd have gone to Roker Report) has me suspicious, could be a bit of a "remember we did that with you, can you put this story out now" kind of a thing. But I also think it might just be the echo filling dead time until the league one vote next week. If they wanted to put out a story to increase season card sales I'd like to think even the echo would be able to sex it up a bit! Couple of unnamed groups have had an initial chat with Donald doesn't really get me grabbing for my wallet!!

I know. Hoping if has a bit of weight to it but I wont hold my breath.

Oh of course there are magically 2 new bids on the table, despite other people meeting Donald's asking price, and the most likely buyers being the Americans, and the queue of quality bids that came in around January, and... blah blah blah. These stories always seem to leak to the press when Donald needs to drum up some interest.

About the only notable part is that info is coming from a prospective buyer, but as that is most likely Mark Campbell (a long-standing admirer who is friendly with the press) I don't think it's a great revelation. I also don't know why in ****'s name a bidder would leak it unless they were desperate to be gazumped.

About the only thing I believe is that people may be interested in taking a look at us to see if they can nab us on the cheap if Donald has to panic sell. Even if they are genuinely interested in a full scale takeover immediately, DD will be another 6-8 weeks minimum, so buckle up lads, the chances are that we're headed into next season with this dickhead in charge.

Its a bit of a nothing story tbh. It says two interested parties have had a chat, but there's no preferred bidder, no due diligence and they haven't agreed heads of terms. Doesn't suggest anything substantial, there were groups interested just before Covid as well, I'm guessing there's always been groups sniffing around
Absolute nothing story... he's just trying to keep some sort of feeling of momentum that the deal is alive.

The reality is probably that he's trying to nudge the only realistic bidder to come seriously back to the table - under the duress of them missing out on the deal.

Small time stuff that FPP can see straight through I imagine... this deal is a once in a lifetime for Donald.. whereas those fellas do it for a job.

equally believable.. the echo went downhill in tandem with SAFC it feels

Dont believe a word these chancers say or the leaks they give to any of the media. The media are a disgrace for even publishing it.

'FPP' don't need to do anything.

Donald can talk about a million prospective buyers and they won't blink.

He can't do a thing without their permission ...

... how a man with no cards can keep bluffing is a little sad tbh.

Get where you are coming from but wouldn’t he pay off the loan and that would take FPP out of the equation, all be it very unlikely he has the money to pay off the loan by the look of things

If he had that amount of money he'd pay them off and throw them back into the market with everyone else.

He needs them a lot more than they need him.

Apparently he took £20m out of the club, laughing all the way to Oxford

Been thinking a bit about this and something else I am struggling with is SD's supposed valuation of the club.

It was allegedly worth £40 million after relegation from the Championship, but with 2 years of Parachute Payments guaranteed, debts accounted for and an academy that was doing well in games and appeared to have some half decent prospects.

After 2 years in League 1 with a vastly reduced quality wise first team squad, an academy where every decent prospect has been sold, the Parachute Payments all gone and a Global Pandemic that has brought huge uncertainty when the fee paying public can return to watch us play. The leaked accounts showed that we made a profit, yet we have a loan from FPP and wrote off £25 Million as "exceptional expenses".

The land that the ground and academy are on are pretty much useless for development, so no great value there.
The Stadium is in need of up keep and repairs
The First Team squad needs a massive overhaul
The Youth Team set up needs an overhaul and investment

Yet despite all the above, SD values the club at somewhere between £35 and £40 Million?

Hit the nail on the head there mate, when you look at Charlton and they are up for sale for less than £10m (granted the previous owner still owns the ground and training centre) and are in the championship, why on earth would someone fork out £40m for us? As you say the whole club from infrastructure to staff is in need of a major overhaul.

this bloke has ripped the life and soul out of our club and is literally taking the piss out of our fans, they won’t get a penny from me until they are well and truly gone.

While I completely agree with that post I am sure Donald is clinging on to the hope that league one football comes back and there is a small chance of promotion. There is a possibility that Charlton get relegated and we get promoted and then the tables are turned in the fact he has a championship club and owns the training ground and stadium. While that’s a huge stretch to think that possible especially the part of us going up, I am sure that’s what he is clinging on to. As soon as the season is finished and we aren’t promoted then his poker hand which at the minute isn’t very good becomes even worse and he has to hopefully fold to hopefully FPP who have cards at the table.

Don't be taken in by the assumption that the land at the academy is worthless for development, it isn't. Its a prime piece of real estate, and there are always developers who will take a punt on a piece of land which seems out of reach because of 'greenbelt' and other restrictions. don't forget it was protected land when SAFC bought it, and although they had to meet certain planning criteria, they still got to site their academy on it. greenbelt laws change all the time, and a quick search will show the amount of greenbelt development taking place each year growing steadily. I'm not suggesting that there's any plan in place to exploit this, but its certainly a huge valuable asset which could have a future value as development land, simply by regulations being changed, which happens every day.

I dont understand how one league can continue and another league can get cancelled. If League 2 got cancelled, they all should. I can sort of understand the Premier League continuing, but one decision should be made for the rest of the football league.
