Apparently for over £5 million - he's Sven's no. 1 target. http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Leicester-City-set-step-fourth-bid-striker-Nicky/story-12948966-detail/story.html I think that this could all be resolved soon. We'll turn it down and Eriksson won't up the bid to £6 mil +. Hopefully that'll mean Nicky will sign his extension and put this all to bed.
We may go 6M with add on but not in 1 go. I think you may get 5M up front, the reason why we are going all out after Maynard is our number 1 target was Yakubu but his wages was stupidly high and now we want Maynard, I think your chairman is the only thing standing in the way as i think Maynard would come if we get a bid accepted. All we need now is main striker and a few squad players and our squad is complete
Not sure why he is taking so long to sign a contract unless he is waiting for a Prem league team to bid which looks unlikely at this stage. The best thing for everyone is to sign a new contrat with a big club release clause in the contract. I will say that if he does leave we still won't be short of goals with Pitman and with money in the bank hopefully that might help build up the defence.
Sell him. He's had the contract in front of him for long enough and if he's not going to sign it I'd rather get rid of him now rather than later.
Sven see's Maynard as the final piece in the jigsaw so dont expect us to give up until Maynard either signs for us, someones else or a new deal with you. I cant see anyone else interested in Maynard as the price has got too high for championship clubs and he is too much of a gamble for prem clubs and they see Shane Long as the number 1 striker in this league at the minute
I agree that Leicester City probably is the only horse in the race for Nicky right now, but they can't offer him much more than BCFC. I don't think that it's the case that it's only our chairman standing in the way. At the end of the day it all comes down to Nicky: if he really wants to go we'll let him, otherwise we'll match most wage offers made by other Championship clubs so there is no financial advantage to moving. Going through Maynard's head right now are the pros and cons of a switch: The only real advantage of playing at Leicester City is the higher chance of promotion, but it is by no means guaranteed. This is offset against staying at Bristol where he certainly still has some chance for promotion, has been there for 3 years, has a settled family and child, and an established adoring fan base. Nicky will decide what's right for him, and hopefully that'll be: 'If it ain't broke don't fix it!'
Anything which might go against us is he will be thinking if he comes here and we get promoted with the money will he just be replaced and then back the square 1. But he will be alot richer doing that. By what Maynard said he would sign for us if we get a offer accepted but if he has to stay he wont sulk. Do you think if he rejects your contract he will be on the transfer list as 5M for a player who will work in a years time is great business
I think what is intersting is that the bid hasnt been rejected yet. Every other bid was shot down in seconds. Also KM's stance has always been that you wont sell to another CC club - so if that is true then as soon as our bid comes in: you should be shooting it down! I think this 'take it or leave it bid' has answered a lot of questions. Namely that Bristol City would consider selling to a CC club and that they now have there concerns that no premiership team will come in for him until his price drops in January or goes on a free next year. Therefire they are going to seriously consider the offer made, especially because NM hasnt signed the contract extension which has been on his lap for weeks (and correct me if im wrong but would be the biggest contract offer BCFC have made). What we can say for sure is - this saga will end very soon!
City should hold onto Nicky Maynard, the lad will be worth a fortune by this time next year, for he will score well over 20 goals for us, if of course he keeps fit, he is an outstanding striker.
Not often I agree with a Wurzel, but 100% spot on there Dodger. Despite the protestations of "lurve" between him and your club, he is no different than Bothroyd or Burke with us. Either jump ship now for bigger bucks or run down the contract and go for free with a bigger punch in the wallet as a result. Take the King Power money for him cos player mentality towards cash (and that of their agents) won't change.
To be honest I'm getting irritated with this whole saga now and just wish the player would resolve it once and for all. The only reason I'm still interested is because I think that LCFC really do need another striker. There are many arguments for him to stay at Bristol so, if that's his choice, just sign the contract so we can all move on. I don't care any more! Nicky, it doesn't look like a Premier League club is going to come in for you mate. Make your choice!
I think that it would be ridiculous for the club to reject the offer out of principle without even considering it. Things to consider about Nicky leaving: £5 million is a lot of money for a Championship player with only 12 months of a contract remaining. We have a very strong forward line, and do not necessarily need to replace Maynard if he does go. That said we are an ambitious club who want to keep as many good players as possible. Money is not that much of an issue considering the wealth of our owner and the £90 million reward for gaining promotion. There are plus points for selling and sticking, and I think that our board's well considered decision will be to try and keep him. But fundamentally, it's all up to Nicky.
My thoughts exactly. If he were to go to an established Premier League team now like Everton I can see him happily working hard for a place in the first team. However, the issue with going for promotion with Leicester is that he'll get a good run this season and if the club get promoted they'll probably replace him with a proven Premier League goalscorer. If he left it'd be a risk, which is why I'm happy for him to go. I just hope he does it soon so we can sign replacements. To be honest I still don't think we should have got rid of Haynes, because while we've got Stead and Pitman the other just don't excite me.
Maynard need to realise there is 2 choices, either stay at Bristol or sign for Leicester. If he wants too long we may end up signing someone else and then he is forced to stay, or if he keeps stalling his contract with Bristol they may but him on the transfer list. I dont think Bristol are stupid enough to let him run his contract down so if he rejects to contract then i think they will sell him Come on Nicky make you mind up
Agreed. His dream, like most English youngsters, is to play in the Premier League. The stalling is not about upping the bidding, it's about fulfilling his ambition to play in the best league in the world. But if he's not careful then Leicester will eventually turn elsewhere, his contract with Bristol will run its course, and both clubs will end up losing out.
I wish we could put this one to bed. If he isnt here in time for the real madrid game we should write him off
When and if Bristol City accept a bid is when the Prem clubs will open up, £6m is well affordable for a striker to any Prem club and Nick Maynard has plenty of potential, hence why you are determined to buy him! His choices wont be as limited as you may wish to think, its not just a Leicester or Bristol city scenario.
