Well 6 years ago we got relegated after failing to win back to back games all season How times have bloody changed
Wow, yeah do you remember the time where we couldn't string 2 wins together!? And now we have just done 8!? Mental!
To be honest, there will probably be a similar thread created this year about how we are going to storm it to the end of the season. Thats why i rarely visit the site outside the transfer window, its got the same sort of people who over-react on the radio whichever way a result goes. (e.g. if we lose to Bournemouth, there will probably be a "we're going to blow it" thread)
We are in a fantastic position, we would probably have to slump worse then last season to miss out on promotion this season. But we still need to keep our feet on the ground for now. If we win on Saturday along with Derby and Burnley failing to win I will personally get the party started though
We are in great form and we are 11 points clear, a great cushion but its not insurmountable if we did have a bad run. However, we'd be very unlucky to have a run like last years again. The Gods of football couldn't be that cruel again, could they? I believe we are a stronger team because of last year and I think we'd deal with a hiccup much better. I am hoping and believing but I'm not lifting so much as my little toe off the ground before it's mathematically impossible to be caught. Anything can & does happen in this division, plus nothing is ever easy when it involves us!
We've never been this far ahead, but the football gods can do anything they want! Then again, if theres some karma in sport, its about time that the good times roll again!
We've more points than any of the last 5 Champions had after 28 games. It all looks good, but every sentence which comes next starts with a big IF. It's about time it was our year, I just don't want to get too excited too soon & end up disappointed, again, those football gods frequently do what they hell they like & have a very warped sense of humour!!
It was actually eight points from 27. Wins agains Wolves and Blackburn. Draws against Blackpool and Leeds. Defeats against Derby, Charlton, Ipswich, Peterborough and Wednesday. If we do this again, we'll be on 71 points by mid-March (Hull and Stoke were promoted on 79), and probably only need around another 14 points (from 27) in Mar-May to get automatic (85 enough in eight of the last ten seasons). So even if we repeat last season's form, we could still be automatically promoted!
And that's why you shouldn't work from memory. I seriously can't remember Derby beating us last season, but then I suppose we were getting used to being beat! I've amended my last post, which is now slightly less convincing (the difference one match makes!).
Without doubt "when" we lose again this season the wums will be all over us like a rash It will be funny and even funnier at the end of the season when we "will" be promoted!!
