    For the younger members …. how prices have risen!
    in 1960 a city programme was 4d up from 3d the year (or so ) before a 33% rise!!!!!! [ there was 240 "d" to the pound and 12 to the shilling "s"]
    from the diary....
    A dozen eggs were 3s- 6d [ large ]
    1/2lb cheese 1s-6d
    1/2lb back bacon 2s-0d
    tin golden syrup 1s-6d
    large Scotts Porridge 2s-2d
    large joint enough for 6 [ at least ] 6s-10d
    tin of shoe polish 1s-9d
    tin of Bisto 7d
    school dinners for 4 was £1-os-0d week [ you got 1/3rd? pint milk free ]
    private 3 bed house rent £1- 15s -0d a week ….
    excluding joint meat, bread and milk a weekly grocery shop was about £1-5s-0d
    TODAY you can get a dozen eggs medium to large for around £1.80p about £1 -15s-0d more than a weekly shop back then ..…..
