Now that Liverpool have agreed a fee for J.Henderson and David N'gog seems to be going the other way, who do you think should fill the backup striker role? Personally I'd go for Connor Wickham, yes, another english player, but its realistic as he fits the young, prefferably british FSG criteria. Although the thought of signing a experienced forward whilst Daniel Pacheco gets another season of first team football out on loan seems quite tempting. I don't think he is ready for the Premier League just yet. Either way, if he did, I would trust King Kenny and Steve Clarke in whatever they decide. Anyone else have any other strikers who you'd like to see coming to Anfield? Remember, be realistic!
if you got Wickham, alot of clubs will probably be very jealous. He's going to be a great player one day, and it's going to be a massive bidding war for him
Well I hope King Kenny and Damien Commoli can keep any bid for Wickham under wraps to avoid any bidding wars with the other clubs who want him.
Wickham has some of the tools that Ngog never developed. He's a strong lad for his age which helps,as he won't be knocked off the ball anywhere as often as Ngog.I would definitely like to see him at the club.
I think Pacheco will get the back-up slot. He's got some first-team football under his belt and I feel that this will be the season in which he is given his chance by King Kenny. Almost forgot to mention, welcome to the forum!
Commoli is a bit hit and miss. He's had some good signings, but he made some poor ones at other clubs too. It'll be difficult to keep a bid for Wickham udner wraps surely, as Ipswich might "accidently" let slip you bid, to try and start a bidding war, more money for them?
Perhaps that was the reason Pacheco was sent out on loan? (Cheers for the welcome ) Good point about Ipswich triggering a bidding war, could be difficult to pull it off, but if Damien manages it, it would be a significant achievement in my opinion.
I like the Bojan rumour but have a feeling he may want to be first choice somewhere after warming a bench for so long. Wickham would be good but for the future only and not next season which would mean Pacheco given a go as back up.
Maybe we can buy Wickham but offer him back on loan at Ipswich for a season (Maybe that could keep them quiet?), loan out Pacheco and Eccleston whilst we use a experienced, backup forward meanwhile?
Damien Comolli signed better players than Harry ''Wheeler dealer'' Redknapp. Didn't Damien Comolli sign Berbatov for £10 million...Spurs made a £20 million profit. He signed Carrick Spurs made a close to £16 million profit. Redknapp signed Bentley,Hutton and Bassong and is going to make a loss on all three.
We've done that before, buy a guy then loan back. It's a good tactic really, as the club you're buying from have a season to get a replacement, and your club doesn't have to have him sitting on the bench, where they'd usually be
But we would also be back to square one, with the move I proposed we would still be without a 4th backup striker (If Kuyt is counted as a forward). Hmm, a experienced, yet still reliable player, who doesn't mind stepping in when required.. Anelka? Drogba? .. (Yeah, very unlikely, Connor Wickham is probably likely to join, or Danny Pacheco to finally get his chance)
Redknapp has made some poor signings, but he's made some good ones too, they just haven't been sold yet, for example, Sandro, he's really playing well now, in the Brazilian squad for Copa America Redknapp didn;t sign Bentley, that was Ramos, so was Hutton. He, in his first window which was jan '09, bought Chimbonda £3m (was later sold for same fee), Cudicini free, Palacios for £12m, Keane off you for £12m, who you bought for £19m, and Defoe for £16m
Although we bought Keane for 19m/20m, he wasn't really worth that and when you guys got him back at a cut price he didn't even justify that price tag.
Sorry we got back a reported £16 million for Keane. However Liverpool only paid Spurs £10 million in the summer of 2008,so I reckon Spurs just gave Liverpool back their £10 million when they took him back.
Think your figures for keane are a bit out but either way it was a big mistake for us to sign him. However, for harry to sign him back and then loan him out is just hilarious
As far as I'm concerned Spurs best striker is Pavluchenko. For the life of me,I don't know why Redknapp doesn't play him more often. He would do brilliantly up front with Defoe ie Big man/Small man.Its obvious Crouch and Defoe doesn't work.
I'm not sure we need another out and out striker but rather someone who's happy on a forward line in a 433 like mata
