http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jul/02/celtic-craig-gordon Celtic will complete the signing of the former Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon on an initial two-year deal on Thursday. The 31-year-old moved to the Stadium of Light in a £9m deal from Hearts in 2007. Gordon’s time in the north-east was subsequently blighted by a serious knee problem, which has kept him out of competitive action since April 2012. Despite many believing Gordon’s career could be over, the Edinburgh-born player refused to accept the same, and a series of injections conducted in Barcelona ultimately healed his tendon injury. Gordon is expected to travel to Celtic’s pre-season training camp in Austria on Thursday and train with his new team-mates on Friday. Celtic’s current No1, the England international Fraser Forster, has been heavily tipped for a move to England or Spain before this transfer window closes. Gordon first told the Guardian in March that he was fit to resume a career that had earlier included 40 caps for Scotland. The goalkeeper is keen to return to the international fold as quickly, a possibility he believes more likely by signing for Celtic. He had earlier trained with Rangers in a bid to recover fitness.
Has had the odd decent game in the CL but save that play's in a pub team in Scotland. Better than Elliot? Probably but I would rather stick with Krul, at least until he is sold.
I think Forster has done well. He looks a good keeper. I'd prefer to keep Krul and hope he can improve.
What you on about, he can kick it miles. Aimless and unwanted by manager, assistant manager, captain and supporters, but he can perform this trick with alarming regularity.
Nooooo.... you mean our realistic hopes of Ochoa or Ospina are over? I'd take Forster over Krul, the way the latter has been playing over the past year, but perhaps he'll return to form next season
I see Forster and Krul as being very similar keepers, at a similar level and with similar weakneses - with Krul being slightly better. If we were offered silly money for Krul, AND we were sure we could get Forster to replace him for significantly less, then the deal would make sense. Ideally though, I'd prefer to keep Krul. Both are good shot stoppers who can make poor decisions when their concentration lapses. Forster's distribution is probably slightly better than Krul's, while Krul's positioning and ownership of his box is better than Forster's. Neither is a strength for either keeper though.
Speaking to a Celtic fan at lunch, apparently they want £8m for Forster. So assuming ater negotiation it would be £6-7m I'd honestly consider a deal if Krul goes for £12m+. We'd pocket the difference (an appeal for Ashley)... sign a player with more potential IMHO... and also an English International... with the Toon in his heart. I may be alone but I'd do a deal if it could be done. It would be good to start the first game with two more Geordies in the side with him and Colback.
Let's be fair we need a keeper. Elliott is an average Championship keeper at best and well Krul would be 3rd choice at Sunderland who are hardly a top 7.
Forster is ****e. Seen him live and he's way too error prone to be considered a first choice starter for any prem team.
