Drivers: Best Driver: Lewis Hamilton, vastly improved from 2011, now he is the real deal! Worst Driver: Grosjean, he might be quick but he has too much left to learn... Most Improved: Massa/Hulk Surprise Package: Maldonado/Kimi Biggest Disappointment: Di Resta/Rosberg Best Rookie: Ricciardo Teams: Best Car: McLaren, for the majority it was. Worst Car: HRT Best Team: RBR Worst Team: Mercedes Surprise Package: Sauber/Williams Under-performers: Ferrari The Season: Season Rating 92/100: Please don't be like that ever again almost died from this season! Best Race: Brazil, had everything! Worst Race: Korea, was as dull as you could get. Best Overtake: Kimi on Schumacher, Spa-Francorchamps Funniest Moment: Kimi, Abu Dhabi/Brazil Defining Moment: Alonso making a mistake at Japan, cost him the title and I knew it. Most Dramatic Moment: Kamui getting on the podium at his home track. Seb being spun on the title decider (Nearly killed me) Biggest Surprise: Maldonado winning the Spanish GP Best Crash: Grosjean, Lewis, Alonso, Kamui, Spa-Francorchamps. Drive of the Season: Vettel, Brazil. (Wounded car, broken radio, wrong tyres and he was still faster than everybody else in the wet!) Best Pole Lap: Vettel, Canada the car was being attacked by the FIA left and right and he still got it on pole. Best start: Alonso, Brazil. Coverage: Best Broadcaster: BBC Best Commentator: Ben Edwards Best Journalist/Reporter: Eddie Jordan (Broke the news on Lewis to Mercedes) Scarbs as always
Best Driver: Hamilton - He's been incredible this season. Very, very fast and consistent with it. Vettel, Alonso and Raikkonen were all supreme too, four all time greats at the top of their game. Worst Driver: Karthikeyan - Just awful, I doubt he could walk the track without running wide Most Improved: Hamilton - His best ever season on the back of his worst. So much stronger mentally than last year. Surprise Package: Raikkonen - It was obvious how good he was before he left, but I didn't expect him to return so strong so quick. Biggest Disappointment: Grosjean - So fast but can't keep himself out of trouble. Lotus will almost certainly stick with him because of his raw talent, but if keeps making errors he'll be dropped mid season. Best Rookie: Ricciardo - Brilliant debut season. His drive in Korea was outstanding. He's qualified well and backed it up with strong race performances. Toro Rosso's best driver since Vettel by far. Vergne has had his moments too and outscored Ricciardo, I think they've justified Toro Rosso's brutal decision to drop both last season's drivers Best Car: MP4-27 - Barring a lacklustre spell in mid-season, they've had a seriously quick car all year. Worst Car: HRT's "car" Best Team: Red Bull - Designed a brilliant car in the RB8, but unlike McLaren didn't repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot. Worst Team: McLaren - Best driver, fastest car, nowhere near winning either championship. Surprise Package: Williams - Worst ever season last year, but returned to form and even managed to win a race. I think they could've finished fifth with better drivers, Maldonado showed how much potential the car had but couldn't capitalise. Under-performers: Mercedes - With the resources they have their results are pathetic. Sauber matched them this season with a fraction of the investment. Season Rating 95/100: Some classic races, brilliant driving, controversy, eight winners from six teams, a close title race. It had it all. Loses a few marks for some boring races. Best Race: Brazil - One that will be replayed for years to come. So much drama, so much tension. Worst Race: Monaco - simply horrendous Best Overtake: Massa on Senna in Singapore - amazing how he saved it twice and still made the apex Funniest Moment: Raikkonen's Brazil excursion, closely followed by his "Leave me alone". The guy is box office. Defining Moment: Vettel inheriting the lead from Hamilton in Singapore. Kick started Vettel's title charge and summed up McLaren's season. Most Dramatic Moment: Vettel spinning on the first lap in Brazil Biggest Surprise: Maldonado winning in Spain. Best Crash: Grosjean causing carnage in Spa. Drive of the Season: Vettel in Brazil - storming back through the field in mixed conditions with a damaged car and the title at the stake. Top stuff. Just shades Alonso's in Valencia for me. Best Pole Lap: Vettel in Valencia Best start: Alonso in Valencia - good launch and then a series of brilliant overtakes in the next couple of corners Best Broadcaster: BBC - Not much between the two UK broadcasters generally, but Edwards is infinitely better than Croft. Best Commentator: Coulthard Best Journalist/Reporter: Will Buxton - Brilliantly written and full of insight, he doesn't update his blog often, but when he does it's worthwhile.
Drivers: Best Driver: Hamilton. Alonso a very close second and Vettel still close in third. Worst Driver: It's difficult to award this to just one person…Grosjean is a candidate for what appears to be a lack of spatial awareness; but he is quick. Karthikeyan is another; but at times he has driven well enough to out-perform the very consistent (if stodgy) de la Rosa. Massa began very poorly but has improved. di Resta has pretty much done the opposite and reduced his own 'street-cred'. Schumacher – in terms of the most horrendous and dangerous misjudgements. Most Improved: Maldonado/Hulkenberg Surprise Package: Pic Biggest Disappointment: Senna Best Rookie: Vergne/Ricciardo Teams: Best Car: Red Bull Worst Car: HRT Best Team: Ferrari Worst Team: HRT Surprise Package: Williams Under-performers: McLaren The Season: Season Rating: 85/100 Best Race: Probably Brazil for sheer drama although spoiled at the end; but others should not be overlooked, including USA Worst Race: Korea Best Overtake: Although there were several technically better examples, Räikkönen v Schumacher at Spa was spectacular viewing. Funniest Moment: Räikkönen's search for an off-licence. Defining Moment: It was surely inevitable that Alonso would suffer at some point. That he continued so consistently for so long in what was on average probably the third best car was astonishing. However, the tables eventually turned in Japan. Most Dramatic Moment: Right now, I cannot remember. Biggest Surprise: Williams resurrection, despite having a rather weak driver, in my view. Best Crash: 'Best crash'? Eh? I seriously do not understand the question! Drive of the Season: (At least) one of Hamilton's wins was truly outstanding; but for the moment, I cannot remember which was best! Best Pole Lap: Hamilton; USA/Vettel; Valencia (thanks for reminding me, AG). Best start: Alonso somewhere: again, I cannot remember right now. [update: Valencia (thanks again for reminding me, AG!)] Coverage: Best Broadcaster: BBC Best Commentator: Ben Edwards. This is no contest: i(like to be called) 'Crofty' is so up his own backside that he genuinely makes me cringe. Best Journalist/Reporter: Jake Humphrey for his outstanding presentation skills. Martin Brundle for his most accurate driver assessment and other relevant 'action' information on the fly. In my view, Brundle still eclipes Coulthard in this respect – despite batting for the wrong team. Gary Anderson for technical input.
Drivers: Best Driver: Hamilton - His best season to date yet his lowest tally in points since the new system came in. Even Bernie said he was the most deserving Such a turn around from 2011. Drivers: Best Driver: So close to call between the top three they were all amazing this year but I will give it to Alonso who always maximized the car in the race Worst Driver: Cucumber Most Improved: Hamilton Surprise Package: Perez Biggest Disappointment: Schumacher being so low in WDC for a seven time champion Best Rookie: Pic Teams: Best Car: Red Bull (McLaren was the fastest but not the best) Worst Car: Mercedes (Considering the resources they have) Best Team: Red Bull Worst Team: McLaren, pitstops, reliability issues and they have just let their only champion since Hakkinen leave the team because they are stingy bastards Surprise Package: Lotus Under-performers: Mercedes The Season: Season Rating 95/100: I am actually sad today, why? Because I know that I am witnessing one of the greatest eras in Formula one and I feel like nothing will ever top the season we have just seen and the last few years that we have had. It's like the day after the greatest party of all time. Best Race: Brazil Worst Race: Korea Best Overtake: Kimi on Schumacher into Eau Rouge Funniest Moment: 'Leave me alone I know what I'm doing'! Drivers: Best Driver: Hamilton, Vettel and Alonso, can’t separate either of them, sorry! Worst Driver: Regardless of the car, its gotta by Narain, he has no right being on the grid! Most Improved: Not the entire season, but from since the mid season break, I’ll give it to Massa Surprise Package: Pastor, boy is quick, I hope he matures next year and avoids the incidents! Biggest Disappointment: Nico, fair enough, his car wasn’t great from Monaco onwards but he looked as if he gave up! Best Rookie: Started of so well for Grosjean, but his run in’s seemed to effect his racing towards the end, I’ll give it to Pic, towards the end of the year started to outdrive his more esteemed teammate. Teams: Best Car: McLaren, Worst Car: HRT for just being pooh and Mercedes for pooping their money down the crapper and coming up with a woeful car! Best Team: Redbull, 3 WDC and WCC in a row, you don’t fluke them! Worst Team: Mercedes, Pound for Euro worst car on the grid and McLaren, fastest car for most of the season and like others have said, weren’t in with a chance for any of the titles, poor! Drivers: Best Driver: gonna say Hamilton, would probably have been champion without the horrendous luck, best he's driven in F1 Worst Driver: Schumacher, worse than most of the pay drivers, slow and dangerous except for the odd lap. Most Improved: Massa, didn't see any reason for him to be in F1 for a long while, now I'd say he's faster than Alonso. Surprise Package: Raikonnen, never really rated the guy tbh, but has shown that being out of the sport for a couple of years doesn't really make much difference if you really have the talent. Biggest Disappointment: Kobay, got shafted by his teams strategies numerous times Best Rookie: not Grosjean, but the others performed well enough Teams: Best Car: probably the McLaren Worst Car: HRT without a doubt Best Team: RBR, didn't have the best car, but maximised their chances everytime they did Worst Team: McLaren, should've won WDC & WCC Surprise Package: hmm, Williams, Sauber and Force India have impressed Under-performers: Mercedes, they needed actual racing drivers. Drivers: Best Driver: Alonso for his consistency, determination and the fact that he came so close to winning the title in an inferior car. Hamilton and Vettel were also very strong. Definitely those three were several leagues above the other drivers. Worst Driver: Senna - he had a few good moments, but the rest of the season was awful. Most Improved: Hamilton - He's been very consistent and if I'm not mistaken has not received any penalties this year for 'causing a collision'.
