The place to discuss Former Posh Players.

A thread where we can post items about former Posh players. Seeing as it's not really Posh news or worthy or a separate thread of it's own but still worth a mention.

So please place any links to news involving former Posh in this thread.

    (Idea stolen from the Gills)

Saw one about Guy Branston yesterday to get us started

Had a chat with a former Posh player while out walking the dog yesterday - Mario Ippolito lives just down the road from me

He is a local lad who came through the Youth Opportunity Scheme, stepping up to replace the great Robbie Cooke in February 1983.

Mario played 8 games scoring 3 goals that season, including on his debut.

Sadly a change of Manager (John Wile coming in) meant his Posh career stalling and he only made one sub appearance in the 83-84 season before
    moving to Kings Lynn

Does anyone know what happened to Mark Heeley?
He was a brilliant young player who left London Road for Arsenal where his career came to an abrupt end.
    What a waste.

I also remember a night game at Hull involving our midfield player, Bob Doyle.
As ever, Bob sort of drifted in and out of the game and was continually barracked by a Hull supporter who kept yelling "No. 4, you're a furry!!", but was soon shut up when Doyle scored a cracking goal.
It was only when the game had ended and we were eating some really fresh fish and chips that a Hull fan informed us that a furry was in fact a fairy.
Such are the vagaries of different dialects in these small islands.

Mark Heeley played 15 times for the gunners, scoring one goal. He left them to join the Cobblers as a Defensive Midfielder, racking up 93 appearances before
quitting the professional game in 83 at the ripe old age of 23.

He spent a couple of years in the UCL with Stamford and then Buckingham.

He did re-join Posh for pre-season training in 85 under John Wile but he only lasted a few days before disappearing again

A good attacking Wing Back, can get caught out sometimes when on a run up-field but has the pace to get back. Needs to work on his crossing ability.

Yes I've noticed his positional play is not always as it could be - all the best for the rest of the season :emoticon-0148-yes:
