This is a very shocking and surprising headline for Portsmouth Football Club to be connected with, but it has emerged that former Pompey academy player, Yann Nsaku, has been arrested in France on suspicion of being a member of an Islamist terror cell.

Nsaku, signed a two-year scholarship as a 16-year-old at Fratton Park back in July 2009 along with the likes of Lewis Stockford, Lewis Tallack, Carl Walshe, and Florent Cuvelier.

His career ended at Pompey last year after a knee injury, when he moved to France, where he was arrested at the weekend along with ten others.

Nsaku is alleged to be part of a network of French converts to radical Islam who planned to attack Jewish targets as part of a “war on France”.

It is very sad to hear that such a promising young talent has been dragged in to something like this after his career ended way too early, with reports that the 19-year-old was arrested in front of his tearful parents.

I don't recall ever hearing about him as a young player, but what a shocker !!
