A lot of the top sides in this country including the ones in our league have ditched the 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 formation lately ive noticed and most seem to play a 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 in others eyes. When SOD first arrived ROD posted a few bullet points from a Doncaster fan about SOD good and bad, One was he likes to play with only 1 striker. I wouldn't mind seeing this formation, With the right players it is very good defending in numbers and attacking in numbers. Davies in the middle of the front 3 CAM with baldock up front on his own. Soemthing like this --------------------Heaton---------------------- Moloney Mcfazdean New CB Cunningham ---------Kelly-------------New CM------------- New RAM--------Davies------------Anderson -------------------Baldock-----------------------
Yesterday we played 4-4-2 with the ball and 4-5-1 without it Baldock filled in down the left - but it left us with no width (down the left) when we had the ball Formation looked better when Stead came on for Marv (who obviously was not fit) and we palyed a "standard" 4-4-2
if we had 2 decent CM's then yes play the 4-42 but we haven't, Only Kelly (yes im saying marv isn't good enough) If we can get another Kelly with a bite more experience then the 4-2-3-1 will work very well. just my opinion though. Im sure sod will pick the right formation next season.
I don't think Baldock can play as the one up front. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think since he arrived that SO'D has played him in that role has he? Far as I remember he has used either Stead or Davies as the one up front so that suggests maybe he doesn't see Sam in that role either. I would be concerned that the ball would just keep coming back as he isn't a "hold up the ball" type player. He needs the ball played through on the floor for him to run onto. He is more of a Michael Owen type player and he never could play up front on his own. Just my opinion......
Which is what we will be playing next year, We will keep the ball on the ground there will be no need for SB to be a hold up player, The perfect team to look at it is Man City. ignoring the GK and defence each position is strong and they all play a key part You have Yaya toure and barry as the holding midfielders. One will attack more (that being Y.Toure) and one will sit back more (that being barry) So already you have gained an extra man going forward and you gain an extra defender when under pressure. Both can attack and both can defend. Then you have the 3 in front of them. Silva Tevez and Milner/Nasri. Silva is the creative one, Tevez is the 2nd striker playing a deeper role and Milner/nasri are your wingers they will get the ball into the box and track back. Tevez will push himself upfront more and being a striker will no what to do when upfront, Also with the 3 behind him there is plenty of chances created. Then there is aguero. Up front on his own, Not a target man just quick and clever. Plays off the last man and scores for fun. We have some of these players, Obviously nowhere as good or we would be in the prem. Barry = Kelly the more defensive minded midfielder Y.Toure = We don't have that yet. Silva = We don't have that yet Tevez = Davies a 2nd striker. Clever and knows where the next is Milner/Nasri = Anderson(or we could buy someone else) He is our winger. Can put a cross in, Fast and will track back. Aguero = Baldock fast plays off the last man and will be our main finisher Liverpool, arsenal chelsea Newcastle all play with this fornation as well.
