Some posters favourite subject. Not one for formation talk normally, but why only play with one up top? - we've got enough strikers!!! Hopefully two up top for Naawich.

We only have three out and out strikers.

I have said for ages - if Cisse doesnt fire (like yesterday) who do we turn to? The prolific Johnson and Zamora?

There are not enough goals in this team imo - proven yesterday. Plenty of creative talent for sure, but its only good if you have someone to finish.

Cisse got no service yesterday hardly his fault! I can see Hughes getting a defender a DM and a striker in

Surely we need 2 strong men in the middle, diakite & faurlin and then use tararararabat hoilett mackie or park as wingers going forward then we need 2 strikers in a combo of cisse / Johnson / Zamora

5 flair midfielders going forward and an isolated front man was with hindsight suicidal

4-4-2 home and away. Let others worry about how they play!

bob....you seem to have changed your views mate. I thought you were all for a fluid 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 mate?

For me because we do not have good enough central defenders or central midfielders to play 4 -4-2. Think we even more likely to get stuffed.

I would love to see us play 4-3-3 col but don't think Hughes has the balls to do it so i would think 4-4-2 is the best way to go considering our squad.

    Like the sound of 4-3-3.

I'm inclined to agree, especially as that would hopefully get the best out of Cisse!

4-2-3-1, Faurlin and Diakite as the 2, Hoilett, Taarabt and Park as the 3, with Cisse/Zamora up top...

After swansea I'd go with a 10 in defence and jude the cat in goal.

We only had 2 forwards fit in Johnson and Cisse and they cant play together.

It was all down to Hughes selling HH leaving us with nothing if Zamora is injured.

We either play an attacking 442 or a counter attacking 451 but I hope we never see cisse or Johnson up front on their own ever again.

The problem for you, in my opinion, is you've bought a shedload of attacking midfielders who are suited to the attacking midfielder roles in a 4-2-3-1 or being wide forwards in a 4-3-3 yet your best striker is Cisse who is best upfront in a partnership and is not so good with his back to goal.

I still think you'll do well this season, it'll just take time for everything to settle into place and for the team to gel as a whole.

You had bad luck in facing one of the only teams who have kept most things the same from last year meaning they are all very familiar with each others games and the formation added to the fact their new additions have managed to slot in nicely with each other seeing as they are very similar to the players they've replaced.

Exactly, people were laughing when I said I didnt want Hoilett, I wanted a CB, target man and a proper CM. We have 4 wingers playing and 2 of them in CM, no wonder we were cut open with ease.

Ideally yes as soon as Faurlin is match fit.. The back four and that guy masquerading as a goalkeeper worry me more.

Again I go back to MHs comment 3 weeks before the start saying that he was close to his ideal formation and starting XI, only to see him play 30 different people in the next two friendlies and now this disgrace of a performance. Is it really that difficult for a manager? Colin made a meal of it and it looks like MH is struggling as well. Do other managers have the same problem???

To be fair even though some of your fans are feeling a bit down at the moment I think you'll see a massive improvement once Faurlin is back 100% fit, he is a cracking player and I think you missed him more than most fans from other clubs realised. He's a player who not only plays well himself but raises everyone else's game by 10% aswell and makes them all look better.

If you got Stephen M'Bia in at centre back and a proper central midfielder in to partner Faurlin (someone like Nigel De Jong) then you'd be a very formidable team. It'd give your side a lot more balance too IMO.
