Swansea throw away 3 goal advantage with 3 at the back whilst Wigan beat Newcastle by 4 also with 3 at the back.
Wigan i think played 3-4-3 but I am not sure how the Swans midfield lined up, was it 3-3-(1)-3. going forward it looked great, got a few lucky bounces and were 3 up very quickly perhaps too quickly.

I could not see which mid fielders were meant to come back to help the back 3, who looked all at see very early on. Dyer and sinclair covered back less than would normally do with 4 at back. System and dramatic comeback did seem to tire our midfield.

Change then pulled Caulker out from his central position where he is clearly needed, looked slow out wide. Tough game for Monk, new system and first game for a while.

When we were 3 up or even when 4-2 up, should we have pulled our attacking Gylfi from the shop window and given our defence some help?

Very disappointing but may not mean an alternative plan is not needed, but the players need to have mind set and fitness to help defence out. Probably can't play 4 or more attack players DG, ND, SS, GS.

Disappointing but we have to remain patient with the squad and board that have done so well.

Taylor was the only defender on the bench yesterday. When Orlandi was replaced injured there was no way to further help the back line other thn winning / holding the ball in midfield whichdidnt happen

Great post neath. Good to see other fans realise we need to work on a plan b.

We've been criticising Rodgers for not having a Plan B and rightly so but tinkering in yesterday's game was foolish imo. Each place is worth almost a million quid! We could and should be sitting in the top half.

Plan B's are for when Plan A's are inappropriate for the opposition or not working. Lesson learned, Mr Rodgers?

Pre-season and in training. Possibly if things aren't working and we're behind. Plan A has worked spectacularly for us so far so why not start with that? If things aren't working out and we're not getting enough chances ourselves or conceding chances then change it.

Unnecessary tinkering backfired yesterday, end of.

We were losing 2-0 to the toon, had we used the tactics we used yesterday we could have lost 6-0. We need to try out new things and yesterdays game was ideal.

Ash I have to say that yesterday was not the time to gamble our financial winnings on a plan B, if that's what yesterday was all about, and that's why we have pre-season friendlies, for such experimenting. Rodgers has been watching Martinez setup closely, and thought he could try it out, but if he's going to take out Rangel and Taylor, at least have Bessone or Jazz in the line up, what got me going though was his team selection, a back 3 with Monk in there?? What a death wish! By the way Rodgers doesn't use his Squad as well as Sousa....................... <ok>
