From what someone posted earlier, it looks like NW's after 2 strikers with HH as backup. I'm not that worried about who they are, my concern is for the possible formation change. Do you think we'll go to a 442, and if so who's going to make the starting 11? For me, Tarrabt isn't a winger (although he did well on the left in the Championship, I think he does more damage to the opponents through the middle), and playing him in centre mid is a non starter unless he drastically changes his game. A pairing of him and Fraulin will leave most other Premier teams wondering how many they'll be able to knock in. With Adel, I definately think we need a holding player like Derry in the centre along side Fraulin. And I don't think he's heavyweight enough to play as a second striker. What are your thoughts??
Tarbs is a fat c**t so we wouldn't have any worries on that score. Otherwise great post Houston!! I said after winning promotion that we couldn't play the same system in the Prem and would go 4-4-2 and if he has any sense, thats what he'll do. To do so he'll have to either play Tarbs out wide, up front or sell him. He'd also have to buy a couple of decent wingers along with a striker and that will cost money which I doubt he'll be given. In my humble opinion I think we should cash in on Temperamental Tarbs and build a different side with a new system. (P.S. Best thread opened in a while. Good man Houston.)
I see we got HH for another year - he's obviously happy with the fact he's gonna be warming the bench for the majority of the season, IF NW manages to get the two new strikers he's been talking about - but any ideas who they will be? The same names keep floating around all the threads, but none of us seem to really have an idea as to where NW is looking for our new deadly strike force - I know it's a way off til the season starts but it would be nice to see some intent from the club to keep us fans happy, instead of languishing behind Swansea and Norwich in the transfer stakes.
Wow, thanks Swords Although I kinda disagree....! I'd like to see us keep him for another year, as we won't be given enough money from his sale or the board to replace his creativity and goals. I think we'd get, as an outside maximum, 10mil as he's not proven himself with us yet, and the Spuds will get a chunk of that. So we'll probably be able to afford Jenas I remember reading the season overview, I think it was 101 points about our season (I'm on my iPhone and can't check. Or write pound signs) and the. First point was that we'd been using a similar system to Germany and Argentina - basically 3 up when we have the ball, and a 5 man midfield when we lose it. And I think that would / could work well for us next year, with the right signings (a decent wide man assuming we also get Routledge, and a replacement for HH. If that does happen, then we could be a decent attacking force. I'm not talking anything Keeganesque here, but it allowed us to perform very well in the Championship, and would also let us get at defences in the Prem. If we can get the right players in..... And it suits Adel to a T. (Yes, I am a big Taarabt fan!!)
I'm with Houston and would love to see us stick with Tarbs in the Prem, along with the system we have built around him. There's nothing inherently wrong with a 4-2-3-1 as long as you can get the right players in those roles (and I think it plays very well with the likes of Derry, Tarbs, Faurlin, Routledge). OK, we need better FBs and a decent left wing plus some experience up front, but then I thin we need those sort of players regardless of the system. What are the options, flat 4-4-2 ? As has been said, would leave Tarbs out in the cold. 4-4-1-1 with Tarbs as the second 1 also seems unsatisfactory. 4-4-2 diamond - wouldn't leave much scope for Faurlin and would leave Derry (or whoever replaced him) very exposed at the back. I say stick with what you know and build on it with a few appropriate additions.
I also think it will be a 4-2-3-1 formation for this season I think it would probably backfire on us to try and change
With 3 goals between them last year (in over 20 appearances) that really would be a comedy double-act.
What about Mackie ? Scored for fun in the first 7 matches then couldn't find the net for the next 20 (OK he added two more), before missing the rest of the season. Can't fault his energy and dedication, just not sure he'll cut it at the next level.
I don't think Warnock will change a winning formula, it's solid at the back and breaking quickly on the counter-attack, just the personnel that need upgrading. Taarabt will have to do a lot more work at this level or the midfield will be overrun.
So you're calling our best player a fat c**t,eh Swords? And in your not-so-humble opinion you'd get rid of him.Well, hope you don't make it to Loftus Road next season...pogue mahone.
Yes he is and Taarabt's a bit of a chunky monkey an' all but I don't know why you're bringing Paddy Kenny into this? Surely a bloke should be entitled to stuff his face as much as he wants as long as he keeps sticks well? We can't all be Mr Ironman, HoopsyLoopy. Don't be so prejudiced.
