2013/14 http://www.statto.com/football/img/progress/ACDAPEBM-C 2009/10 http://www.statto.com/football/img/progress/ACDALEAM-C Out of interest, in the last 7 years 2009/10 is the only year where 50 points wasn't good enough for survival.
Strangely enough I'm still not fearful of relegation. Generally you need between 51/53 points from memory. I did my seasonal forecast and stated we would achieve 63 points. We are currently -7 against that forecast (56 points). However, I don't think any of us could have predicted such a disastrous start to the season, with no win in the first eight games. So I think from my points prospective my forecast has come out of this quite well. My next six preseason forecasts, only sight one win, so anything in addition will be a bonus: League One Sheff Utd v Gillingham Sat 16 Nov 15:00 3-0 League One Gillingham v Oldham Sat 23 Nov 15:00 2-1 League One Gillingham v Stevenage Tue 26 Nov 19:45 2-2 League One Rotherham v Gillingham Sat 30 Nov 15:00 2-1 Dec-13 (5) League One Gillingham v Peterborough Sat 14 Dec 15:00 1-2 League One Tranmere v Gillingham Sat 21 Dec 15:00 2-1 So bearing those above forecasts in mind, there is a long way to go but i see no reason why 53 points as a minimum is not achievable.
Roy, points for the teams in 21st place over the last 5 years:- 2008/9 49. 2009/10 50 (Gillingham) 2010/11 47. 2011/12 43. 2012/13 48. Just shows how unlucky we were to get relegated before.
As you probably alreadyknow I have no interest in stats. If, or when, we go down it will be little comfort to me that we may have gone down with a record high points tally.
unlucky !! You had to be there - at Wycombe to believe your eyes - being stuffed 3-0 by an already relegated team - the combination of our league position and the permutations of results 'needed' to suffer relegation almost made it impossible - but we managed it ! The performance on the day was so shocking that it is the only game where I have left before the match ended - albeit I was still (technically - just) inside the ground as the referee blew the final whistle.
all we needed was a point but we were awful away without winning a single game. That's what got Stimson the sack.
I don't think that is true, Stimson got the sack because we were relegated, and the reason we were relegated wasn't just down to that single game it was down to the 40+ games earlier in the season. And just to add nobody is unlucky to go down, the league table never lies, if you go down it is due to the simple fact that you weren't good enough
You forget that Stimson also berated the fans for the poor results, a cardinal sin and hence why when half of us went to Barnet on that cracking Tuesday night for our 2nd away win in a row after Oxford, he got a hell of a lot of abuse! Thinking about that game, how we could do with Bayo, Cody, Lee and Whelpdale playing like they did in the second half of that game for the rest of the season!
