Forgotten man says he is the striker to fire QPR to safety Thursday, April 5, 2012 8:33 AM DJ Campbell is confident he can replace Djibril Cisse .. QPR striker DJ Campbell says he is the man to score the goals to keep Rangers in the Premier League. The summer signing has scored just once since his move from Blackpool and has just made four appearances for the Hoops in 2012 due to a hamstring injury. The striker came through a benind-closed-doors match against West Ham on Tuesday and believes his 14 strikes for Blackpool last season, prove he can score goals in the top flight. âItâs not quite worked out for me this season with injuries, but I scored a lot of goals last year, so why not?â he said. âItâs what I get paid to do and thatâs what I hopefully can do when I come back. âI feel I can make an impact straight away. I believe we can do it. If I can score the goals to help us do so, then my jobâs done.â If selected, Campbell will come up against Manchester United at Old Trafford in his first outing and although Rangers have matches against Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City to come, the striker remains confident of survival. âAll the home games Iâve played in since Iâve been here have all been very close,â he said. âAt home weâre a lot stronger than perhaps we are away. Weâve got tough home games, but theyâre winnable and after a performance like the one we produced against Arsenal we can beat anyone here.â
QUOTE The striker, a £1.2million signing from Blackpool last summer, has played just 11 matches in all competitions since moving to Loftus Road as a result of an injury-hit campaign. But Campbell, along with Heidar Helguson, on Tuesday came through a reserve team outing and could on Sunday return at Manchester United from his most recent hamstring problem. Mark Hughes will welcome any increase in his goalscoring options, with QPR only sitting outside the relegation zone on goal difference and Djibril Cisse facing an extended ban. And Campbell is confident he can help, as he said: "It's not quite worked out for me this season with injuries, but I scored a lot of goals last year, so why not? "It's what I get paid to do and that's what I hopefully can do when I come back. "I feel I can make an impact straight away. I believe we can do it. If I can score the goals to help us do so, then my job's done." UNQUOTE Talk or will he walk the walk?
Give the guy a break. He has had a number of injuries. Fact. He has only played a few minutes in most games he has come on. Fact. If he is fit, I would like to see what he can do. Probably the role of impact sub is most he can realistically hope for but if he is finally match fit, I think he should be given that chance.
Hes had a bit of a shocker with broken toe, hamstring and a fairely serious virus. Ok,he hasnt really featured much, but hes a Hoops supporter and just something about him I like. Subject to a small miracle,we will probably drop down,so players like DJ and Boothryd could do the business for us next season. Lets see what happens
He is world class. I'm surprised he wasn't snapped up by one of the top 4 end of last season. Without a doubt he will keep you up!
Take me home Al Fayed, that is an interesting name? But then again it couldn't be 'Take me away' could it, because only 250 made the trip to Bolton? Oh Dear!!!!
Getting desperate with the insults now? Told you before you're a rubbish wummer. Always here for you mate.
I take that back then! Well done Fulham for winning today! good club. As for Chelsea? I can't really say anything as they helped us out today.
Apologies Telford my old mate. Just winds me up people thinking I'm a Chelsea fan... But guess I had that coming. Regardless DJ is quality. A West London Pele.
I won't knock Chelsea fans as they are special? It was great how they managed to sneak 3500 fans into QPR and sneak out again!
