One result does not make a season, but a victory today is a good feeling, and will be the catalyst of the next few weeks...picking-up points to take us into the comfort-zone of the top ten in the league. We should all agree that the team looked a lot better with a 4-4-2 set-up.Two good centre-forwards up-front,and,finally,two good wingers providing width and quality. What a difference it makes playing people where they should be played!!This board has been rightfully filled with doom and gloom for a week or two..now,let's kick on and forget the doom and gloom and look forward to a good season.Bring on Judas and the Villa!!
I'm not even looking that far cal, all I want is to enjoy the moment, enjoy looking forward to next Saturday with renewed confidence and hope we kick on. I am the eternal optumist so will expect 3 points next week, today showed we are more than capapble and a 4-4-2 will be the starting line up, Bruce is bigging up Wickham so wont drop him. I'm sure we will hear lot of what could go wrong but that will never stop, decided to just ignore it and enjoy the week.
Good to see a partial end to the doom & gloom merchants but, to an extent, it's still there: Bolton - the worst team in the Premier League, rubbish first half etc... Some people will never be happy & almost take pleasure in our bad results. Look up the table & our position is not that bad. I know this will provoke the usual responses: Our form this year, Bruce's tactics & so on. I will just repeat my oft mentioned comments: we are but a mid table team & like most other mid table teams, we will experience our bad run, at some point, in the season. And before anyone asks if we should be happy just to be in the Premier League, the answer is an emphatic yes! I, like everyone else, would like to be challenging for Europe but that's unrealistic at this stage. Let's take pleasure in celebrating a decent win.
I agree with the majority of what you say here mate. But I do disagree with the expectations part. There should be no reason at all for us not to be challenging for 7th during this season.
I hear what you're saying, mate, & maybe we will be challenging in the top half of the table by the 2nd half of the season. I just think today's supporter has expectations that are unrealistic. It stands to reason not every team can be in the top half of the league. And, unless you have the purchasing power of Man Utd., Man City Chelsea etc., then you are amongst the teams scrambling for Premier League survival. You never know, Ellis Short may start to pump in the millions & I would be the first to welcome this. However, in the meantime, I take a realistic view & put Premier League survival at the top of my list.
well i was there today and was impressed with the srength of whickham we got what we deserved 3 points
Let's start by keeping an unchanged side for next week, and hope that injuries and suspensions don't force us to make too many changes in the near future.A settled side is a great positive.
There is absolutely no doubt that we looked far better and stronger with 2 strikers but ask yourself why that hasn't been happening and then you'll see why there is so much doom and gloom about. Those players have all been available since day 1 but the manager chose not to play them. Connor Wickham looked strong, hungry and full of himself today but 8 or 9 weeks sitting on the bench hasn't developed that, he had that already. After all, he has got some 50 or 60 games for Ipswich under his belt and is hardly a total novice. Bruce has ****ed up the start of this campaign totally but has a chance to show he will listen and learn. If he starts to **** about with formations and selections after today's confidence booster then I'm sorry but my agricultural language towards him will ramp up significantly in the coming weeks. For the next 8 or 9 games up to the new year, I fully expect to see the same team every week and the same formation of 4-4-2. Even against Man Utd, where we expect to lose we should play the same team, as they have to start to play together to 'gel' as the manager likes to put it. Chopping and changing and generally ****ing about with the team has cost us dearly this year and its time to let the best 11 have its head now. Post it note to Bruce - leave the **** alone and let the players who have won a game away play every week.
It's nice to see that you are now prepared to give him some slack if he proves that he has learnt from his errors...
He has a mammoth task convincing me he can turn this round RAW, an absolute mammoth task if at all but if he does manage it, then SAFC will be in a fantastic place and thats a win win situation. PS- I still desperately want him gone and a good win at a hapless Bolton hasn't changed that opinion here. I'd sack him in a whisper and put Martin O Neill in charge tomorrow but thats not going to happen, so I'm stuck with the ****er unfortunately.
