The new Nottingham Forest owners, Al Hasawi family, are planning to replace Steve Cotterill with an iconic manager who knows the Championship................................ Sean O'Driscoll????
You could probably have asked the same question when Southampton appointed Nigel Adkins (albeit they were in league 1 at the time).
Good appointment. A great coach that has constantly got players to over achieve. With a bit of money behind him who knows? I wanted him in when Grayson was sacked. Only thing is, has be been brought in to be a yes man? I heard the new owners have brought over a few Saudis for trials & Mick Mcarthy didnt take the job as he wouldnt have full control over transfers etc. I wouldnt be disapointed if I was a forrest fan with Sean O'Driscoll in.
It's actually 7 Kuwaiti trialists they've brought in, although they do say one of them is the second best player in Asia...I'm pretty sure there'd be a lot of Japanese/Chinese/N.+S.Korean players that'd disagree with that though.
Ahhh cheers for that. Makes it look a whole lot worse! Got a feeling it will be the owners toy and a manager will be there in a bit part capacity hence why Mick McCarthy turned it down
If you think O'Driscol is a bad signing you didnt see the football he got them playing at Elland Road. He is a class manager at this level and the one touch football he gets his teams playing is hard to break down. If they let him sign who he wants they will be dangerous if they sign all their Kuwaiti mates they are ****ed.
Glad you agree Thought he was really hard done by when sacked and with the right club could have a bright future. Dont know if that club will be Forrest though, it could end up being a nail in his coffin if he is just a pawn in the owners game!
Yeah even he was unsure wether to take the job n had to have 2 rounds of interviews. Last season you could tell the games he had biggest influences on for Forest, when they played us they passed fluently and caused really problems but when Cotterill took charge of the games they defended and defended and tried counter attacking which nearly took them to league one.
The FA would knock back on the permits for international clearance for most of them so Forest fans have little to worry about there. But the Middle East may be a very lucrative market to exploit and if Forest were to corner it, it could be a super strategy.
I think the writing is on the wall with those 7 and McCarthy walking away from the job, I don't think the manager is going to get much of a say in signings and transfers.
