Saturdays FA Cup match with Forest is being investigated by nottinghamshire police for racism. Forest fans posted videos all over youtube signing your not english anymore plus other chants was sung. They are claiming that Leicester fans was spitting on them aswell and its be investigated both the police and Forest. I didnt go but i know quite a few people on here did, so did you see or hear anything? Also why were on the subject to the Hull, Leeds fans whatever it is against the law to post racist messages on the internet weather its on twitter or on a message board. If you dont believe me read this http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-...-collymore-twitter-race-abuse-61634-30085815/
Didnt hear them singing that, but just seen it on the local news. Whoever posted it on you tube is gonna be popular cos it shows exactly who was singing it. Makes the police job easy
Am I alone in getting a little bored with all the knee-jerking going on in relation to the 'R' topic ..... can I ask who has been offended by the Forest chant? Whilst I was born in the City General hospital, my great grandfather came over from Ireland and there is also both Irish and Scottish blood from my mother's side .. Two of my 3 daughters were fathered on a Welsh mother (one born in Neath and the other in Bedfordshire) and so, as such, any such chanting aimed in my collective family direction is not entirely incorrect .. and I'm certainly not offended by it. I'm not attempting to over trivialise the topic itself ... all I'm saying is that I'm proud of who I am, where I come from and my ancestry .. and no amount of moronic, monosyllabic chanting from bunch of numpties would ever make me feel differently .... all of us should feel that way, irrespective of race, creed or colour.
Me personally im not offended one bit but some people are. Just look at the Oldham right back All what will happen is Forest will get a fine. There was too many people doing it to prosacute them
By sheer coincidence - I used to work with Tom Adeyemi's father .. actually went to his wedding - he married an extremely 'English' girl ... saddest aspect is that his dad has always been a Liverpool fan and I suspect what should have been the proudest moment in both their lives was spoiled by a scally who will never come close to appearing on that hallowed turf unless he gets a job on the ground staff ... let's hope they require an animal fertisliser taster ...
Come on...its one thing not to get caught up in the hype here but its another to actually defend it. Lets be honest here: 1) The chanters are of limited intelligence 2) They arent making a factually correct statement that most Leicester fans arent English - because that would apply to any club 3) They are using the fact that Leicester has a diverse and multi-cultural population and claiming that as a result its fans arent English 4) The connotation behind this is meant to be negative (in their eyes) and that they are claiming all ethnicities arent English - even though most have been born in England Whilst many of you may not be offended, i expect quite a few will. Personally i wouldnt lock them up for being racist because such language simply proves how thick they are. But i would lock them up for supporting Forest!!!
It's also totally arbitrary for the FA to say who the Forest fans were chanting about. It could have been anyone, not necessarily the Leicester fans who spring to mind. Might have been about the club because of their foreign recuitment and ownership which has effectively whored them out as a marketing platform for Thai airport goods. Seems like a pretty good chant when you think about it, might try get it started at Elland Road.
Here we go, a thread about racism, hijacked by the Leeds fans, who of course see do problems with it...
If you do .... I'll orchestrate a retaliatory chant in Ken Bates' direcxtion of "You're not Santa anymore" ... you have been warned.
Such a predictable uneducated Leeds post. So what is English exactly? Would it be the Anglo Saxons, the tribes of German origin? Maybe its the Romans, that came all the way from Italy. Perhaps it would be the Normans , that tribe of French origin, although technically they were not French as they originated from Scandinavia?
Well they were singing 'You're not English anymore'. Hardly anything to kick up a fuss about, although, technically it is racism.
Actually, a more accurate interpretation would be that the particular chant was an admission (by those chanting) that those to whom it was directed were once English, but had somehow converted to another nationality ... I have no problem with this and may now change my name on these boards to 'Crazy Horse' in recognition of the pleasure I am taking in my new found existence as a native american ..
They're using it in a derogatory sense that 'English' is the only way to go and that anyone that isn't English is worse off.
Racism is just the hot topic atm. I remember ppl singing "wheres your caravan" to Juan Pablo Angel when Villa played us in the carling cup, that would prob an arrestable offence now-a-days.
AKCJ - Thanks for clarifying - suspect I and most other suspected that - but if you pick apart the absurdity of the chant in renders it more laughable than offensive - haven't you ever seen the 'Romans Go Home' graffiti sketch in Monty Python's Life Of Brian?
