It appears that certain Foreign Owners want an end to Premier League relegation.

Almost half of the 20 P.L Clubs are now foreign owned, and it would only take 14 Clubs in foreign hands to force a vote on any new reforms.

So,could the P.L. become a closed shop in the not too distant future?

Yes I saw that article. How would that work? What incentive is there for teams in the Championship? What would happen to the bottom PL club by way of sanction? This lunacy cannot be allowed to happen. Maybe the powers that be should bring rules in to prevent majority foreign ownership in the Prem? Personally, I'd have mixed feelings if a wealthy foreign owner took over the Swans (a la Cardiff).

On the one hand the investment would be great but on the other I can't help feeling that the character of the Club would never be the same. Maybe I'm being too sentimental but I love the fact that we're majority owned by Welsh people, unlike that lot up the M4 whose players run around with the name of another country on their shirts.

Non-story - changes to competition rules require FA approval.

And just because clubs are foreign owned, doesn't mean that they all want the same thing! As mentioned above a non story, who on earth comes up with this crap in the media ?

"doesn't mean that they all want the same thing".

I can guarantee that they ALL want more money, and they may just feel that an all exclusive P.L. may give it to them. It doesn't mean it will happen, but
it can be debated, and not merely dismissed as "crap". If you don't feel like contributing, fine, but why the negativity.

I'm not quite sure that this is "crap". The fact that so many Clubs are foreign owned, and a few more in The Championship, makes it a genuine subject for discussion.

Little wonder this Forum is ailing.

Vetch again picking holes in my comments, tell me what the hell is up with you ?

I asked who came up with this story as I have not seen any links from you, it would help if you actually linked to the article you quote from ! And now I have seen the article it is crap and never would go ahead as the FA will not allow it as it states, so a non story quoting some person who does not have any real power to do that

and here is a link to it

Well I wouldn't be so ready to dismiss this either. Rich owners, particularly those from Arab and Asian countries, value their image and standing in society. They would see a relegation as a loss of face and imo would fight tooth and nail to do whatever it takes to stop that from happening. I do take the story with a pinch of salt but the story must have come from somewhere. If there's a grain of truth it's worrying.

HTR it will kill the game here as there are another 72 clubs who would oppose it utterly , and most of the premier league sides would as well IMO , yes it's about money but there is another major player here who oppose it I think, and that is Sky TV if they don't want it , it will never see the light of day.

Sorry to show my ignorance but do the other clubs have a say in what happens to the Prem League? Can understand Sky having an influence though.

Yes they will lobby the hell out of the FA, can you imagine teams like Forest, Leeds, West Ham, Birmingham, Sheff Wed & Utd sitting in the lower leagues being forever denied promotion to the premier league ? Whilst small teams like us , Wigan , Stoke etc being a permanent feature !

Honestly if we were in the premier league and this came up for a vote I would expect the swans to vote no !

But we're not foreign owned. The point of the article is that foreign ownership is on the increase and they only need 14 clubs to get a vote on it.

But the reason I think that it's unlikely to happen is that football the world over is based on clubs and players striving to be as good as they can possibly be and to pit themselves against the best. Whereas players can be transferred up into the Prem it'll kill the standard of the lower leagues if those clubs have nothing to strive for. It just sounds a bit cloud cuckoo land to me.

Yes but if we are in the premier league, we will have as much right to have a say as Man Utd or Liverpool, but the top 6 or 7 sides will never get relegated, so what would be the point for them to vote for this? More concerning is the proposal by Liverpool to have their own TV rights , or a super league where the largest sides form one, leaving all other clubs behind.

The powers behind Sky, Al Jazeera , Deutsche Welle et al will have the real power behind football, I really hope that such crap proposals outlined by a person wanting sound bites, will come to nothing as this is a league killer .

Its nothing but greed and should be defended to the hilt, if it does happen then only the rich clubs will survive and it will be the end of competitive football as we know it......

A bit touchy, again,Jager. I merely responded to your dismissive "crap" comment. It is still O.K.to do that, isn't it?

Anything in place to prevent the "top teams",plus the foreign owned ones, forming a breakaway league, possibly including some top European ones.

    Surely Sky,etc.,would go for that.

This is assuming that all foreign owners agree with this. And also assuming that non-foreign owners don't. No-one has suggested this and it will never happen. It's a complete non-story.

    I guess it's no longer a "non story" then,eh.

None of the above referred to luminaries used the word "crap",they have given their opinions, and that's all any one can ask for.
