Billy you've got to learn your heritage lad! In Toxteth the kids got together and collected scrap wood for the bonfires. We made a Judas just like you would a guy fawkes. We paraded the Judas around and beat it with pigs bladders tied to sticks and then set the bonfire alight and burnt the bugger!
It was great fun 'cause the scuffers and the fire bobbys chased us around so that they could put the bonfires out. So it was a case of running down the back entries to find a new sight before they could find us. In my day it was easier 'cause there were lots of bomsites around.
I was talking to a guy from Everton valley about it the other day and he's never heared of it!
I'll ask my Dad if they had that round Huyton ways (in the 1930s....chuckle)I've learned something there Dave cheersI'll ask my Dad if they had that round Huyton ways (in the 1930s....chuckle)
