The Chairboys host the newly crowned EFL Trophy winners looking to put an end to their dismal run of results and get away from the drop zone while Pompey are at the other end of the table still hoping an automatic promotion place is in their grasp. Gaz welcomes back Nathan Tyson to his squad and as we haven't been able to pick up a solitary point in his absence he should walk straight back into the starting line up as far as I know we have a fully fit squad. I will be at this one along with Slasher and Blue having a couple of pints to clear our throats and singing our hearts out hoping we can rediscover our home form and start collecting points before that bell tolls
Well that's another 3-2 game I have seen this season only the wrong way round. Pompey started at 100mph with 3 corners in the first 3 mins & completely blew us away for most of the first half. We had two shots on target one from a free kick, for which the Pompey keeper earned his wages. A sucker punch at start of second half, Bean got one back I thought he was offside he was virtually stood on the goal line. When the Beast then Kashket came on you could see the Pompey defence panicking. Then they got a free kick in the same place as McCarthy's in the first half & Piman even put the ball in the same place as McCarthy's, big difference Allsop did'nt save it the Pompey goalkeeper did. Kashket a great goal well worth watching & as Guywanderer says the last ten minutes we had the chances to at least get a point.
Fortunately I was out and didn't have to suffer yet another defeat. We are up against it now and have to rely on the teams below us losing. Not good Here are our remaining fixtures. On paper that looks promising, until you look at our last 10 results Tuesday 9th April Wycombe Wanderers v Charlton Athletic (5th on 73 points) Saturday 13th April Southend United (20th 1 point below us) v Wycombe Wanderers Friday 19th April Rochdale (23rd 2 points below us) v Wycombe Wanderers Monday 22nd April Wycombe Wanderers v Walsall (22nd 2 points below us) Saturday 27th April AFC Wimbledon (21st 1 point below us) v Wycombe Wanderers Saturday 4th May Wycombe Wanderers v Fleetwood Town (11th on 56 points)
At least we hav'nt got to play Luton, Barnsley,Sunderland, & it is still in our own hands & apart from Southend our GD is a lot healthier
And some of those below us play each other. Too complicated to start calculating scenarios. Maybe nearer the time, when I hope it won't be necessary
The player who ran the game for Pompey was Pitman, we used to have somebody like him in Paul Heyes. Legs gone a bit but makes up for it in football know how.
