Navy SEALs have a new extra-realistic training range built by a Hollywood set designer at Fort Story in Virginia.

The range drew immediate controversy for one of its props: a life-sized cut-out of an attractive woman accessorized with an Islamic headscarf, a handgun, and a Koranic text. The cut-out is one of several that zip around the compound on a track while SEALs shoot at them with live ammunition. The training center announced this morning that it will stop using the image, after the Center for American-Islamic Relations asked the Pentagon to intervene: "Using a Muslim woman wearing a religious head scarf...as a target for our nation's military personnel is offensive and sends a negative and counterproductive message to trainees and to the Muslim-majority nations to which they may be deployed."

Last year Obama promised a clean-up of counterterrorism training to stop targeting mainstream Islam, after revelations that FBI training taught that Islam was a bigger threat than Al-Qaida.
