    The Station

    The Station
Trust links up with The Station in central Bristol.
The Bristol City Community Trust has teamed up with The Station to offer free five-a-side street football.

Beginning later this month, The Station – situated in central Bristol – will be offering street football in their courtyard for people aged between 13 and 20.

Completely free of charge, the football sessions will be held every Thursday (between 6.30pm – 8.30pm) from July 25th through to the end of August.

Development officer Vicky Barlow said: “The Station operates with very similar aims to the Trust in terms of engagement and inspiration.

“This is an exciting partnership and hopefully will prove extremely popular given there is free street football on offer.”

If you’re interested in getting involved, call Emily Bull on 0117 204 7338.

    Interesting and FREE.

What I want to see is the community trust greatly increasing its contact with kids in the golden years of development (before 13).

There is nowhere near enough provision for coached hours for kids. European kids can easily get fours hours a week week at a very early age. An English kid will be lucky to get one or two, and it won't be free.

Now that it is upgraded to Cat 2 the Academy will be able to start giving teaching to younger kids as a Cat 3 we were limited in the age groups we could get involved with 13 plus and an hour or two a week for younger now I think it will be 6 plus

I think City should greatly increase contact with kids below nine. The coaching is patchy in Bristol and needs more cohesion. City could easily fill voids in coaching. Young kids will get a session a week with their kids club, but little more. City should be able to offer additional coaching in structured fun courses on top. City offer some, but it is not that far reaching. There are opportunities post school/ non term time through the summer e.g utilise the park for instance. The upside there for community involvement and more is obvious.

Even before nine kids need proper training. By nine they can have core skills. They can develop skills and have great enjoyment doing it. Skill only comes before work in the dictionary. That work can be fun, and starts at an early age in Germany, Netherlands, Spain ..

To be fair it is only in the last couple of years that City have started re engaging with the community it will take time more coaches are being taken on probably with the intent of trying to connect with more kids.

Football has had a significant period of time to study how other nations hone their superior technique.

To be fair City have thirty odd pros who they could use to coach kids in a park.

Our kids are years behind at six and seven already v Europe.

At £8 an hour in Filton and Keynsham. Add travel cost and thats on the steep side. Very steep. Kids side will be a couple of quid.

Bristol City player participation for kids £8 a session.

For a registered charity that price looks too high. I would question how inclusive that price makes the coaching.

They may do occasional sessions at schools etc. There would be benefits, but the odd hour here and there is not going to have a great impact on increasing core skills.
