The little weasel does it again, this time to get a penalty against Villa, to salvage a point. So much for a reformed character. A player that has amazing technique, superb balance (when he wants) as he weaves past players, so why does he do it, and more importantly, why is he getting away with it? Time to stamp this out. Before anyone moans about the use of technology, as it takes too much time, it is reckoned that it takes no more than 10 seconds (in the majority of cases) to be able to review an incident and relay a message to the referee/4th official, or whoever. To me, that is an acceptable amount of time to delay the game, to get the right decision. Sorry about the quality, I didn't originally post it. Sorry Thia but it was a pen. The little rat made the most of it but there was contact, minimal I'll agree but none the less Guzan gave him the option to fall. I would also want him on my team.
I would, for all the other things he brings to the game, but not for that. I honestly would be quite embarrassed. We have our own version, although nowhere near as skillful, in Snodgrass, and he too does my head in and I find it impossible to defend his diving, theatrics and constant whinging.
I have watched that clip at least 15 times, and I do not see any contact, not even the slightest touch. Suarez bought the penalty, he did not earn it, and I doubt anyone will convince me of anything different.
Pretty much what the pundits said on MotD and whilst the contact was MINIMAL, Guzan was at fault for charging out and sliding in as he did. TC - MotD asked viewers to text in and around 65% agreed with you!!!
Since when did any contact become a foul? Is a semi-contact sport. Guzman doesn't touch him nearly hard enough to go down. I'd that us a foul the rules need changing because it's pathetic
One of my most hated phrases from commentators is "he was touched so he had every right to go down". ****ing bollocks its still a dive.
I think you'd have to say that from the refs perspective, it was a clear penalty. Nobody could possibly come to any other conclusion. It's only from the multiple angles and frame by frame analysis that doubt starts to creep in, and even then there are still differences of opinion. Really good point above about whether any contact = foul. I guess the interpretation being applied is that when a player is running at speed, any impact is likely to knock them off balance, so therefore a foul has occurred.
The issue with the whole "He felt the (Slightest) touch so went down" is that if any of him was touched it was his right leg. Yet his left leg suddenly forgets how to reach the ground. He clearly bought it and I'm surprised anyone is trying to defend it!
Anyone who has played sport knows that is not true. They say it all the time but running at full speed unless you get ankle tapped you rarely need to go down. Which brings up another point, refs should give fouls even if a player doesn't hit the deck.
I notice that Suarez hasn't had to resort to "Buying" any soft penalties when he's played against you!
I wonder if your shower will ever find out what it's like to face him at Anfield in a league match? Unlikely I would say!
I actually hate Brad Guzan more. I accept Suarez is a one of the best players in the world, Guzan is very average yet we make him seem like Buffon when he plays against us it's very annoying.
If it was as simple and straightforward as - " there was contact so it´s a penalty ", then I´m afraid Stoke would give away as many penalties as they give away corners, as Shawcross and Co grapple and hang on for dear life at every corner they give away, and not only before the ball comes in, but before, when, and after it comes in. If you´re wiped out by a bulldozer, then yes, it´s a penalty, but if you feel the tip of the keeper´s gloves touch your bootlaces and you still go down as if you were hit by a bulldozer, then it´s a dive. My verdict - dive
