Please do not leave us in a situation like you did a few years ago with the whole berbatov/Keane saga and the awesome replacement that was Frazier campbell . Rumours gathering pace that defoe is on his way out and obviously Pav looks to be aswell and with the rumours today of Saha to spurs looking likely wouldn't it just be spurs to play their cards wrong and miss out on our top targets only to be left with Saha after selling both Pav and Defoe. Don't get me wrong i am happy to see Pav and Defoe gone for Saha and a top class striker replacement. Will this happen? You can bet your mortgage it probably won't. I truely hope Levy has got something special lined up if Defoe is indeed sold otherwise i don't think i can ever forgive him again. Once was bad enough for putting us through that berbatov/Kenae mess, twice is unforgivable!!!! COYS!!!
I cant see Defoe going unless there is a suitable replacement (and i dont mean saha) God I hate transfer deadline day................
I agree - if Defoe is sold, it can only be because we have NEW STRIKER lined up (Damiao?) But the way it's going our 3 strikers will be Ade, Saha and Pav
For the love of God DON!!!! Get your facts right !!!!!!!!!!!!!! We signed Pav as a replacement for Berbatov, we also had Bent at the club. An ill-founded attack on our chairman. We also had Campbell, GDS and Bentley who was a massive signing and scoring freely pre-season, IIRC. No to mention the attacking options of Bale and Lennon along with the creativity of Modric. We'd spent big looking for the right attacking blend over the years 07 and 08. It didn't work out well for various reasons, but by the very next season we qualified for the CL, and quite a few of the players bought between 07 and 08 played a crucial part in that achievement, including Pav. I agree we should have replaced Keane earlier than we did, but Don your OP is a not a fair summary of what happened that summer.
if Defoe goes to Liverpool, I have a feeling that the only person taking his place will be Andy Carroll in a swap deal. we've supposedly been in for Carroll in the past and he needs his "nightmare" ended. Defoe is frustrated at lack of games....
I said that earlier, Roo. Seems a little too convenient all round, doesn't it? Can you see Defoe and Saha as a pairing? I can't. Saha and Carroll?
I'm sure you haven't. We'll give you Gomes for Torres though, if you like. We're short of programme sellers for tonight.
errrr, what do you mean get my facts right? I guess i must of dreamt us selling our 2 best strikers and replacing them with rubbish and to be in the relegation dog house for over half a season, you need to get your facts right!!! Levy has worked wonders but he has also made some big mistakes and i don't want us to mess up the brilliant work we have done this season, that ok?
You can argue that PNP, as Pav arrived before we sold Berbs. But I think Pav was more a Berbatov replacement, we clearly weren't going to replace Berbs with another striker, as the Berbs deal was done at the last minute. Pav was far more a Berbs type player than Keane. The fact is Don's version of events is an ill-founded attack on Levy. We had Pav, Bent, GDS, Bentley, Lennon and Bale as well as Campbell as attacking players. That was a very expensive line up of talent. Bent could play as a lone striker, so there was no particular need to overload the team with three main strikers, though obviously we could have done.
Err, no you need to get your facts right. We'd already got in the prolific Bent and then we got in the highly rated Pav, those were the two 'replacements' for Keane and Berbatov. We also had other attacking options as well. I don't think Levy needs any lessons from you, as you don't know what you're talking about. I've already pointed out that the team finished 4th the season after. The money we got for Berbatov and Keane plus the talent we had already got in, laid the foundation for that. Is that ok?
Have to agree on carroll/defoe PNP, it seems the most likely for me. what are your thoughts if it was to happen?
Mixed feelings. I can sort of see the sense in it, as Saha and Carroll are both capable of playing the lone striker role effectively and Defoe and Pavlyuchenko aren't. I think that the finances of the moves would be an important factor in my view of them.
yeah, I know what you mean. I'm just bemused. i just cant work out what's going on! we've loaned out the youngsters, and rightly so. but the talk of players coming in is just pathetic. i'd have rather seen some of the kids have a go than some of the new players we've been linked with today!
