Just to prove that the wheels of justice do get company directors who don't abide by proper professional standards, albeit quite slowly: http://www.accountancyage.com/aa/news/2230144/former-luton-town-and-spurs-fd-excluded-by-icaew This man has not only been banned as a director but he's lost his professional qualification, which probably took him 3 years at uni and 4 years in post graduate training to achieve. Stupidity as opposed to criminality is not grounds for disbarment - you may know that Sir Roy Gardner is a member of a similar chartered institute to the one which has just expelled Derek Peter. Our friend Peter Ridsdale has also been nailed, not before time: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-half-years-for-financial-irregularities.html
I don't think anyone believes that just anyone in a suit is corrupt or a thief or anything else particularly. What happens in life though is that many who wear a suit to work seem often to get away with a great deal and do it by "avoidance" rather than theft which to a lot of people amounts to much the same thing. Out of the blue for example I got a bill from the taxman for £800. Reason being that my pension payer had for some bizaar reason applied the wrong tax code to my account in the previous year. I was informed in November of that year that I owed this for the previous year. By that time it was 7 months into the next tax year and I checked and found I was still being taxed wrongly. This meant I was going to get a bigger bill. When I contacted the tax people I had to tell them to amend the current code so that I didn't owe a full year extra. Although they knew I wasn't paying right they did nothing to stop it continuing. After numerous letters to them following stock standard replies to me which repeated the same thing which had no bearing on the case I finally got an admission that THEY had made a mistake. My crime was I didn't notice but at that time I was nursing my mother through her terminal cancer and waiting for her to basically die. Irrespective of their error I still have to repay the debt. This is whilst numerous multi national companies were paying nothing at all to the UK economy by "avoiding" tax quite legally. Now it isn't surprising that the ordinary folk of this country believe there is one law for one and quite another for a select few. To the average joe soap the "avoidance" of paying taxes is illegal in the same way as somebody who can't afford a smart accountant not declaring what they should. I know it isn't illegal as such but it still stinks to high heaven. A very rich titled person being released from prison because they are about to die so on humanitarian grounds who then recovers and lives on for years. Just a couple of examples of the difference but it could be a list as long as your arm. When a Company Director goes down then it is hardly a wonder that the masses smile and applaud.
The whole Starbucks affair is close to making me throw up. Absolutely politicians at their very very worse, especially that moron Margaret Hodge, treating the public like idiots for her own advantage, aided & abetted by a populist press. And no other politician has the balls to point out she's taking absolute *****. Firstly, it's the Government's job to write tax law and enter into international tax treaties. If they want to bring morals into it, then write them into the law, don't expect others to apply morals that aren't in the statute. But they won't because while they're posturing for votes, they know it would absolutely not in the countries interest to do so. Secondly, the Government enters into international tax treaties for two reasons: 1) FOR THE BENEFIT OF UK COMPANIES OPERATING ABROAD. You can't have it both ways, Thickhead Hodge will be to blame if, for example, the Americans start having a go at British Aerospace or Rolls Royce or Jaguar/Land Rover or the thousands of other UK companies that have big operations in the US. 2) To encourage inward investment into the UK to provide jobs and generate Income Tax, NI and VAT receipts for the Government. So what does the idiot Hodge do? Take a very public anti-business stance against foreign companies that are complying with the law exactly as Parliament wrote it. Great stuff Margaret, will get you a few votes but the electorate will never know the damage you're doing. The public are being played like fools on this one.
And therein lies the difference between us/them notdistant. I'm not being used by anyone because I think that what these companies do is immoral and wrong. It is immoral and wrong that they are allowed to do it legally. The majority of us are PAYE people who have no choice in the taxes we pay. It's ripped away at source to get the max that can be got. It is indeed the law that is wrong in allowing it and it is indeed the Politicians who make these laws. It still doesn't sit well with the non-suited amongst us whoever is at fault. It is however still an example of the little man being squeezed whilst the fatcat suit is not. But then when has it ever been different. It was the suited variety that led to this latest bombshell of an economy not the likes of me but who pays the price for it.......people like me of course who did nothing to cause it. What do the guilty get.......paid off handsomely or paid bonuses and stay exactly where they are.
I still wouldn't call them "crooks" joe even if it is tempting. The Law states the rules and they aren't breaking any of those. The imorality lies in taking the freedom to trade without hinderance and securely within the Country without thinking you should make any contribution towards either. They don' pay tax so if for example I went and put a brick through their window should the Police do anything about it? They don't contribute towards the Police's cost so should they expect to benefit from them as a business. I don't have kids at school and don't use the Library for example yet have no choice but to pay towards them both. But then to withold my contribution for them would be illegal and I would find myself in court. Double standards in every way.
Yes i understand it is Legal, but as you say one law for them and 1 law for us.. I pay my taxes on time every time, i don't like paying the Corporation tax or personal tax. But we have no choice, but its obscene what they are doing and the amounts we are talking about. No wonder the country is f u cked up! Look at the twa ts running it
It's allegedly all of the world's finances that are F***ed joe but there is something I don't understand about it all. If there was 50 zillion zillion zillion quid circulating around the planet before the crash then where has it all gone? Does it no longer exist because somebody set fire to it? If not it is actually still circulating around the planet but nobody is owning up to having any of it. You'd need a bloody big bed for the mattress to hide that under. The other thing is that they have printed another zillion quid since the original zillions disappeared yet none of that seems to be anywhere either as everyone wants to borrow so they can't have it. Who are they borrowing money from if nobody has got any as well? Second thoughts you may be right with the "crook" thing. No wonder I don't even own a suit let alone wear one.
Did you take on board a single word I wrote Sensible? These rules have developed over time because they are good for the UK, both in bringing jobs in and helping British companies do business overseas. What we have now is politicians saying one thing to Joe Public which they know will be popular while knowing full well themselves that it would be severely damaging to the UK to change the law. Talk about arrogance in treating the public like idiots and total hypocrisy all at the same time. You're being played like fools......
They just take what they want and shaft us.. same as the administrator done with Argyle. another theif
Why should I listen to anything you have to say notdistant.......you wear a suit to work. You might like to answer the question of where all the zillions have gone though. The money supposedly existed once and like all things it cannot just vanish so if we as a nation haven't got it somebody else must have. I figure all we have to do is track that person or persons down and make them give it all back to the various nations and then we can all relax again. I think I should be the Head of the International Bank because I'm surprised nobody has thought of that simple thing up to now.
Perhaps Guilfoool was involved some were along the line or Heaney? We can go on assuming who or what happened to the money.. but its gone. They talk about plumbers and trades man ripping people off, the persons in suits are more suited to ripping us all off. They can talk the talk and that is it as far as they go. they want to try some real work.. i **** high flyers ..wan kers
Joe is like the Ferrero Roche of language Mrs lalala........ Why are you posting something about the Prem on here you bleddy plastic. I bet you call your parrot Fergie in the privacy of your own home and his cage Old Trafford don't you.
Sensible, my language is bad, but why waste time typing when you can say it quickly lol no need to go the long way around.. say it as it is!! That is my trouble.. Distant is probably ironing the gear and getting the suit dusted down for tomorrow. I got my suit in the van... boiler one! Oops i did wear a suit last week as my mate got married.. hope they never thought i was a rip off merchant ...or a crook!!
Are you trying to annoy me sensible??? I can't stand the man or his team. Now Mancini is a different story...
