I apologize for intruding. As an old lady yank, I know I have nothing to add, but I do so enjoy and appreciate reading you all here and wish you all well. But I couldn't resist this: http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-N...ride-Weighs-in-on-Fulham-Everton-Matchup.aspx PS, for me the big news is Fox Soccer is showing the Fulham/Everton match live on a Friday afternoon (ECoast), just because there are Yanks involved. (Imho, it's a followup to their showing last Sunday's Arsenal-Man Utd game before our big Super Bowl semis and means they've now declared war against ESPN in the (small, small, small, but growing) US viewing market. It also means that, since I live south of Miami, I can watch our guys, live on FoxDeportes. COYW! Best regards.
Thanks OldNSlow for the article Great Story, and quite typical I think of the class and character of McBride. There were a couple of key quotes in there for me: First, that his heart is still with Fulham and its fans: “I’ll always have a spot for Everton, but I’m rooting for Fulham,” McBride said. “It’s pretty funny because I have some good friends at Everton, but my allegiance is with Fulham. I look at my time in Everton fondly, but having spent more time at Fulham and having the chance to really get into the workings that aren’t just the soccer side of things, that is where my allegiance lies.” Second, responding to the fact that Dempsey passed him as the EPLs top-scoring American, he didn't even realize people were keeping score - “When I saw him do that (pass McBride's record), I was so happy for him,” McBride said. “It may sound crazy, but I’m not a records kind of person, and at first I didn’t even know there was a record. But when I saw that it was making some news, then I realized that it was a great feat for him in the sense that you can see how his career has progressed and evolved. It’s a great legacy.” In an age where players are referring to each other with racial slurs and stamping on their opponent's heads, McBride stands out as an old-school professional and gentleman.
Thanks for this oldnslow - as others have said, you're welcome anytime. The thing that I noticed from the article, DR, was McBride remembering the time that he was on a hat-trick, but saw Andy Cole in a better position and passed to him. If that isn't the epitomy of a team player, rather than a personal glory-hunter, I don't know what is. He was and is a class act.
I'd like to add my thanks and welcome, oldnslow. Big Mac and Deuce are true American Heroes - we love 'em
Thanks oldnslow and Welcome You might want to know in Honour of Brian McBride's time at Fulham they named a Lounge Bar in the Stadium in his Name. http://www.fulhamfc.com/Hospitality/SeasonalPackages/McBrides.aspx Brian McBride is a true Fulham Legend.
