Despite the hiring of Nigel Pearson along with the expectations we all had I have to say that I feel we have gone absolutely nowhere under the new regime. The same old stuff appears every time they take the field and I would have expected, no demanded, some improvement that has never become evident at any level. The tactics bewilder me and surely if you want a better outcome then you must shake the tree and change things up to get a different result. I have seen nothing under the management of NP that gives me hope for the future and I don't expect to see any change by the end of January. I just heard from the commentators that we just had a bad day at the office but I'm not quite sure if we even know where that office is located. By now I would have expected an improvement but I don't think even NP knows how to organize this lot and if I were him I would just pack my bags and move on. We have just got our second and the Champions League awaits.
What experiment is this? Shying away from scatter gun signings? Signing goalkeepers with sight problems? Dealing with too many overpaid under achieving players? Whatever we think he has to be given 2 windows and the owner has to fully back him in both. But as I have been saying for some time now, the selfish side of me would love him to be sacked, just to see who the next manager SL will bring in to ultimately fail with this squad of players and maybe then the penny will drop.
He’s had one summer window under constricted conditions. He needs to show what he can do in the January sales.
Similar thought process there Jiffie but sadly I can't ever see the penny dropping at Ashton Gate. How many more years do we need to see the same pathetic dross being served up and when we finally bring in a manger of note we continue down the same path getting us nowhere. Is there anyone out there who can see through our mess and clean up our act - honestly I don't think so. P.S. The word experiment was used with my tongue very much in my cheek.
same players different manager same results, fans just want instant success and have no patience, it’s clear we have a pretty poor squad with average players, and are stuck with playing players out of position again, NP doesn’t have much to work with, he said he’d need 3 years and he’s not even had half of that yet.
I saw this post on OTIB and it more or less sums it all up for me: please log in to view this image JoeAman08 Posted 3 hours ago Johnson got the money. Pearson gets the excuses. He’s been a poor appointment and hasn’t gotten this team to play the honest high intensity football he promised. Lethargic all afternoon. Not only were they a much better footballing side but they were fitter and more physical than us. So what has he made us? 7 signings were his. Rennie was supposed to keep our best players fit. New contracts to the two young lads starting. New assistant manager in old ones out. He has had enough time and made enough decisions to have the team not be outworked almost a full season on with a preseason. And our best football has come when he hasn’t been around with covid. Slowly draining the football out of our best players. Two young promising attacking midfielders I’ll put them at wingback. Play a striker in midfield who breaks down countless attacks with poor touches and passes. Down 3-1 take a cb off for a LB but play him a good amount at LCB. Square pegs round holes sounds like the stick to beat johnson with yet nothing for “big nige” He is a has been manager who has fallen out with multiple playing staff over the years and had one successful spell with talent in his staff and recruitment department. And millions of quid in a time 3-4m gets you top talent. Sick of the experiment. Sick of the football on offer. Sick of being outworked every week. And before you talk about money Huddersfield didn’t spend anything on fees this summer. Released almost as many as we did. Relying on frees and loans. None of the prem squad are really there anymore. All with a coach nobody knew before hewas hired. I still think there’s no point in getting rid of NP at this stage until he’s seen an entire season out, but so far he’s not convinced me he’s anything better than we had before.
Here is another OTIB contender, opposite opinion but just as valid. REDOXO please log in to view this image Members 10k Posted 24 minutes ago It wasn’t meant to say either. But for the record I wouldn’t change the manager. Well we will agree to disagree about the farce that was 13 players out of contract multimillion pound overspend on players fees and wages. The fact that we have valueless assets on huge wages, that needs to be paired back while having limited ability to spend as we can’t generate any money. Thus in order to make us sustainable we have to blood youngsters and prey we can off load some high earners! I don’t like the fact Wells never gets a chance to start but as was pointed out on another thread that’s probably because he has less than zero value if he’s injured. DeSilva came here and was out for ages with shin splints and has never regained any semblance of his former self. Williams is theoretically our best player that has been crocked since his arrival or before This club staggers from farce to farce and has done since SL so spectacularly failed to back Steve Cotterill when we were promoted then threw money at Lee Johnson via Mark Ashton who jumped ship as Pearson was arriving thus leaving him to carry the can for the continuing comedy. Hardly anyone else at the club say s a bloody word and our chairman sits with his hand on his Dick on yacht somewhere off the coast of a Caribbean island So yes from where I am sitting Pearson inherited a **** show of mega proportions that was years in the making and continues to give. As I said Sir Alf would struggle right now but what we hope is we can keep enough of it going to make a mid table finish and have Half dozen players with previously only league one/two/u23 experience a part of a cohesive squad for next season without spending any money that could give us FFP issues.
the squad we have is not that bad... it is supposed to be an improved one from DH days as had opportunity to improve that and " done so / STARTED to " so far team is not as good performance wise as DH /PS/KD VIZ:- 2020/21 ........ PLYD 23 .. WON .. 11 .. DREW .. 3 LOST .. 9 .. F .. 25 .. A .. 24 .. GD .. +1 .... PTS 36 2021/22 ........... " ....23......... ...... 7 ......."......... 6 ....."....... 10 ..... 26 .. .......35 ............ -9 ... PTS 27 WE NEED A CLAUDIO !!!!!
fair play for trawling OTIB for that one Wiz Of course it’s inaccurate regarding Cotts’s backing but hey ho …..
But it's OK for you to trawl through OTIB. Of course it's you who's inaccurate about Cotts backing but hey ho ...
Trawling, nonsense, it came off of the same thread your example was on, I don't agree with the comment or you, I looked for balance and accuracy, the good and the bad, surely I am as entitled as you to broaden the information flow and give an opinion, we can't and don't always agree, as far as I'm concerned it makes life interesting and long may it continue.
Whilst I agree he needs longer, but don’t all new managers say they need the length of their contract?
Cotts WAS backed financially, but his recruiting was ‘interfered with’ (I’m talking about the Maguire ‘deal’ in particular). We made 3 big offers for players under Cotts. Unless he was providing the money himself he was backed by SL and the board. Even now, had one of those deals gone through it would STILL be the biggest amount we EVER paid for a single player. ….. but then, of course you knew that - everyone knows that.
For all my scepticism around NP I believe it’s too early to sack him. We are not in the relegation zone and the league is so tight there is even still time for us to launch a push for the playoffs. To be clear, I don’t expect the playoffs but I do demand that we don’t slip below the Championship. That was my demand of Johnson (which he delivered) and it’s my demand of NP too. Nige needs a couple of transfer windows to complete building his side - then nobody can blame our feeble performances and results on the previous regime.
Continue down the same path with mainly a squad of poor and seemingly overpaid players, that together have never ever been consistent. Wage bill cut by one third already and further cuts have apparently been demanded. Name somebody you honestly believe could make this squad consistent? I would love to see somebody like Pep come in with no money and transform this squad into consistency, 3 managers have failed and I would bet that the next one will as well. Fans need to take a look at the trail of destruction that has been left by our owner allowing his CEO to seemingly interfere with all aspects of the playing side of our club and as more and more snippets emerge from ex players like signing a goalkeeper on loan from Germany with defective eyesight FFS, it's endemic of what is having to be cleared up and the comedic way our transfer policy was handled. But as I said let's sack him, the owner will more than likely promote his number 2 on a rolling 1 year contract and see how the fans react and see how long he lasts and when he fails, what/who next? PS:-The experiment was Ashton and when it became unsustainable it has failed leaving us where we are now, the penny needs to drop, how many managers is it going to take before people open their eyes to the reality that maybe just maybe it's actually the players???
This is an observation not an excuse. From yesterdays game it is patently obvious that Kalas has an injured shoulder, he was rubbing it all game and never took one long throw, Vyner took over that duty. As I have said before I believe that Massengo is carrying an injury, he just does not look his normal fit self to me and I also believe that Atkinson might be carrying an injury as well, he seems to have lost a yard of pace. I wouldn't mind betting that all 3 or any combination of them are in need of a longish lay off at best or at worse surgery at some stage.
