agree with that. and Wales and Scotland have their own individual anthem. why are we stuck with the British anthem? ours should be Land of Hope and Glory for all England events.
Makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck as the music builds and the first line of the song is belted out, totally agree
It needs to be a holiday. No excuses. It's been out down long enough, the flag doesn't represent racism, it represents pride in England I've never understood why there is a confusion between being proud to be English and proud to be English or welsh or Scottish or whatever. A person born and raised on Florida is proud to be from Florida and the United States as well.
Should definitely be a national day and holiday. Over here we have it (Australia Day) and we even get a day off for her majesty's birthday! This Thursday it's a national holiday to remember those that have died fighting for this country and by default historically Britain. Perhaps another day that you should be in UK's holiday calendar. Anyway Happy St George's to you all.
If we were to have an English anthem, my choice would be Pomp and Circumstance no4, or possibly Rule Brittania
A day to celebrate a ficticious person, we start doing that, everyone might start going to church again, and we wouldn't want that lot getting a voice again, its bad enough now with the Tories back in charge.
Well I listened for one and a half minutes to a load of electronic drivel DH then gave up, sorry but WTF is that all about ? Try this:
It's not necessarily about a fictitious person carrabuh, it's a national celebration of England, our proud history and what these small islands have given to the world. If you prefer not to acknowledge that, fine but please don't insult those of us who believe in a greater God.
When it comes to the greater god I really could not care less who I offend. Crackpots the lot of them. You should believe in the greater good instead.
I actually believe in both thankyou very much, I respect your view but do not agree with it. Let's leave it there and move on .
Why? It sounds interesting, I'm utterly opposed to all religion. If anyone with an opposing view wishes to join in to stand up for there beliefs. I'll quite happily back my own.
I would never impose my beliefs on anyone carrabuh and neither should you mate, we do after all live in a free country
Carrabah, with comments like 'crackpots the lot of them' you aren't exactly opening the floor for intelligent debate. Just because, like me, you chose to put your faith in the belief that the world somehow exploded into being from nothing doesn't mean your beliefs are more intelligent than people who believe it was created. I don't really see the relevance of your comments to the discussion about patriotism anyway. (London based) Dreadzone's Little Britain should be the English National Anthem btw, uplifting song based around a sample 'England today is a powerhouse of ideas, experiment and imagination'
