if you don't like what one internet user is saying....... instead of trying to get them banned from here, why not just put them on ignore? ****ing babies!
That's a rather naive method of dealing with offensive content. While I don't particularly find the phrase used offensive, I recognise it is socially unnacceptable, as I assume does Stuart as I hear he's been flagged on the same word before. On a board I moderate, it would be dealt with by editing the word out, while leaving a comment in the post stating that an inappropriate word was used. Then a PM to the user asking him to be more careful with his use of words. At that point, my moderation is done. No questions are to be asked about my moderation on the board. By all means ask for an explanation by PM but if you keep spamming the board about it you would receive a 7 day ban. This is all in the board rules, and is respected by all members. I can't guess what DMD has PM'd Stuart as I assume you can't, so leave the moderation to the mods and keep reporting posts. The rest is just aggravation which serves no useful purpose.
What have I missed? And although I haven't seen the comment, I don't think just ignoring something really bad is the right approach. Where do you draw the line? Someone could post the most vile racist, sexually exploitative language or images and are we supposed to shrug and say just ignore it?
At least it makes a change from him whining about all the world's ills being down to "the southern press", I guess...
We'll said. I genuinely find it laughable/sad that people spend all night crying over a word. At the same time, they judge people on their perceived character rather than the issue/post. It's ridiculous.
The issue was really people doing neither. If you see something you feel shouldn't be on here, hitting "report" is the most efficient way of dealing with it. A mod will then see it (as long as one is on line) and take any appropriate action. What happened was that people complained about it a word the thread in question, even after the word had been removed.
Agree with this. I think people need to think about things before posting, certain folk clearly say things for a reaction and by giving them the attention they crave, you're only encouraging them....sad but true. Also, reading some of the threads, its obvious that some posters clearly don't get on with one another and will argue a point just for the sake of it. Its becoming embarrassing reading some of these sorts of threads on a weekly basis, its supposed to be a forum for football primarily, not a school playground to argue tit-for-tat. This does not mean I agree with racists at all, but I think there are better ways to deal with those than currently exercised.
I don't think he was saying to ignore 'vile' posts but was referring to the option you have of adding a poster your 'ignore' list. If a poster continues to post defamatory and objectionable remarks then add him to your 'ignore' list. in that way when he posts there will be nothing there just a simple message telling you that you have chosen to ignore this poster so his post has been removed. His post can be seen by others of course but not by you. I currently have two posters on my 'ignore' list as I simply don't like what they say.
MY moto is simple, If your not going to say insulting things in public then why do you feel the need to say it on the internent?.............OHHHHH wait.......Keyboard -**** house-warriors
We do all have a responsibility to keep what we say on here decent as the forum serves a wide audience. If you wouldn't say it in the pub/street in the ear shot of those you may not know well, then don't say it on here.
So some cretin uses racist language and gets a temporary ban. Good. How long a rest do we get before the idiot's allowed back?
Never been banned- never been a reason to be banned. And there never will be. Trust me. Why not try and take a leaf out of my book Craig? Never complain- never explain.
It depends. I take the approach that if someone posts 100+ posts a month and we have to take action on 2 of them they're less likely to be banned than someone who posts 2 posts a month and we have to moderate both of them. They've both needed the same moderation, but the second is more likely to be a nuisance poster where the first is someone just going too far pushing their luck. It does obviously vary based on the nature of the moderation as well, if it's based on general issues a ban is less likely than if we receive a complaint about some serious abuse by the victim themselves, so you're less likely to get banned for using a term you shouldn't than you would for accusing a specific poster of something you shouldn't be. I also try to consider the general feelings at the time, so when emotions are generally running higher I'm less likely to go as far as a ban rather than letting things calm down and the users sort things out themselves than I am if it's an otherwise calm board. Generally, at least from what I've seen posters on here have been quite good at apologising to each other when they've gone too far after a piss poor performance and a load of drink. Unless it's an obvious ban/no ban situation we do tend to discuss these things between us, as soon as one of us thinks someone is coming close to a ban we deal with it in private messages asking each other what we think, and then letting the person know they're on thin ice (or going straight to a ban if we're agreed on it).
