The free agent - are these deals any good? The player gets bigger wages. Occasional gems to be had. Larsson has been worth it. 5 million player. Average, rarely improve. I'm not sure we've signed a good player for that sort of money. Often squad players. Don't move you on to the next level. 10 million No guarentee of success. We rarely pay this kind of money. 15 million Our closest to this bent and fletcher. . Very high expectations at that price of a very good player. 20 million plus - out of our league? 30 million - should be world class What do you expect for those prices.
Depends on the club and scouts really. For instance, for 35million you could get an Andy Carroll, or 50 would get you a Torres. Then again you can get a Michu for under 2million.
I disagree strongly to free transfers on high wage. What happens is that the player starts earning more than he's worth, so when you want to sell them you can't as no one will pay transfer fee+ plus the wages. It basically means you're stuck with player you can't sell for their entire contract. It's stupid business especially when a 40k basic is going to cost over 5 million on a 5 year contract, then you have bonus payments for goals/appearances and the ridiculously high signing on fee. These players often end up a burden you can't shift once you've change manager or philosophy where the player just doesn't fit into the plans. Bad Idea, one that's already bit us on the arse and led to multiple contracts expiring together. I personally think Larsson has been an absolute rip off and his tied up wages with his dodgy performances has clogged up our wage bill and limited our freedom in the transfer market.
