I've read many articles over the years about footballers of many clubs (including our own) being paid £thousands per WEEK and yet not ever being held to account for playing poorly.
I accept of course that football isn't an exact science and it's also a team game, so an individual's own performance may be directly linked to others doing there's (ie a striker depending on service from his team-mates), but there MUST be a way of measuring it.
In my business, your contract is linked to performance - if you don't perform it gets cancelled. Ok, i don't work in football, but SURELY having someone burning money when essentially crap is SILLY.
It's not just LJ/Ashton (apparently Nicky Hunt was on Premiership wages - remember him?), or even just Bristol City - it's a cancer on the sport as a whole.
It's time that all clubs got together and stopped this 'licence to print money' by players and their parasitic agents.
I don't know any other industry where this sort of contract exists - I may be wrong (please tell me).
We should hire - with a probationary period, and if you don't make the grade then bye-bye. If you're any good then you'll get more money - it's simple supply and demand.

Of course it doesn't happen - but I genuinely don't understand why. It seems so simple.
If it's not simple, how can I get one of those contracts to do my own job? (Industrial IT Project Management)?

Basketball, American football to name two sports. Tennis is another and probably golf. But they are prize funds not wages I suppose.
There is no way they can put this back in the box as they will say it’s giving clubs the power again and stopping their potential. Now was the best time just after Covid when funds were not available but they won’t.

    Darts to a lesser degree...
prize funds are the icing on the cake, top people "get paid" by companies to advertise or do events. Even the lower levels semi professionals get something … from sponsors or doing events .. opening local fete etc! etc etc
    FOOTBALL [ other major leagues ] get a salary/ contract + sponsorship money … so a player on 100k might get a further £x 's from a sponsor say 1 or 2+ million a year …
EVERYTIME you wear an item [ with product label ] you are paying to give the product label free advertising.. [ could tell of a very profitable instance /s of this but don't want to get ROD excited ]
