Just seen a snippet of Rio's autobiography on the BBC website that talks about the now infamous David Moyes Chip Ban when he was in charge of United. Now if I'm reading this correctly it sounds like he wanted to ban chips from player's meals the day before the match...sounds pretty sensible to me...and yet Rio's reaction to Moyes getting the boot was to "get on to Giggsy. We've got to get him to get us our chips back." Now I'm not a big fan of the modern footballer - I've long thought that they are weird oversized children with terrible taste and spoilt attitudes created by their inflated wage packets - but come on!!! They're supposed to be professional athletes, surely there should be some level of self control in there to resist chips once or twice a week! Maybe Harry could get him a Happy Meal after a game to keep him happy...a treat if he's done well.
If you take away the money, the fame and the talent they're just the same as us aren't they? And we wouldn't take too kindly to being told no chips today, even with all that jam tomorrow.... Players generally get a very poor rating from fans, being variously described as greedy, thick, passionless and lacking in loyalty. But isn't the simple truth that they were better than us at the game we love, which is why they made it and we didn't, and we'll never ever forgive them for that?
Maybe they are the same as us deep down but having a professional attitude to your health and fitness should surely be first and foremost to any professional sports man or woman. In the age of advanced sports science and nutrition, is it not reasonable that players should put up with some control on diet from their employers? I wouldn't necessarily say that the low opinion fans have of players comes from some sort of jealousy - it isn't on my part - I think fans have grown to expect more from the players, and why not, we pay enough to see games and to buy shirts. And if they REALLY need some chips before a game, surely they could stretch to a carry out or if they're at home a wee box of micro chips..
I like plenty of unhealthy food (especially pizza) but I tend to have pasta the evening before a longer run (7 miles plus for me) let alone any actual race. That's me and trying to do my best without even being competitive against others. Your body feels miles better (less sluggish) than non-carbohydrate based meals. If you payed me 10K a week and gave me a 15-20 year limit on my career, I think I could stretch to steamed vegetables and a club nutritionist's diet sheet.
LOL. a) I'd guess it's preferable to warm semen. b) It's best not to throw in your rock bottom level in the first negotiation (unless that really is your opening gambit).
Well they ate them while fergie was in charge. Did no harm at all. Infact the players getting together before a game casually over a plate of chips probably had a positive effect on them. A brief bit of downtime.
Spot on. I'd half forgotten that amongst the rest of the lacsedasial (sp)? rubbish served yesterday, but when it happened I was bluddy livid, thought he must have forgotten who was paying him now.
In the late 50's/early 60's after Cubs I was allowed 6d of chips each week, and a soft ice cream cone, that for the same price I enhanced my order as "chips & bits", that included broken off morsels of fish in batter - yummy, all wrapped up in newspaper, with salt & vinegar - lovely stuff!
